Somebody asked why we need a new Supervisor of Elections in Walton County, and what's wrong with the old one. What's the difference between Ray Padgett and Bobby Beasley?

(1) Well, first, Bobby voted to buy Diebold machines--maybe he didn't understand those machines were so vulnerable. Ray does.

(2) I voted early with a paper ballot, but even with a paper ballot, who knows how the machine read it?

(3) The real difference is that Ray Padgett, long before he was urged to run (by several of us), made it be known that he planned to dedicate the rest of his life to working toward a voting system in Florida we all can trust. As a private citizen, he is limited in what he can do toward this goal. As a public servant, he will have at least a fighting chance to make a difference. We all know he is well qualified for this job. Computer technology has been his life's work. Bobby - is no doubt a fine person, but we have a real chance to put somebody in that position who will, has, and does devote himself to reaching this goal. I hope this information will answer any questions that may have been raised.

and during the 2000 recount...(where none of the networks seemed to
know that Florida had two time zones and announce Gore the winner before
the polls closed 'up' here)...my recollection, correct me if i'm wrong, i'm old
....but Mr. Beasley's wife (who was Sup of Elections then) ..therefore...
Good old backward Walton County...had 6 'questionable' votes...and none
were hanging or pregnant chads...granted it was paper ...

sorry...venting on blatant 11 hr tactics....

What is your motive for using such desperate tactics as raising irrelevant issues to distract from the pertinent issues? What you you trying to cover up?

The problem is Mr. Beasley is the Supervisor of Elections now, not his dear late wife who we all miss.

As Walton County?s Supervisor of Elections Mr. Beasley has clearly displayed through his poor judgments that he is not capable of protecting our votes in this high tech age.

Despite massive evidence indicating the problems with electronic voting machines with no ?voter verified paper record?, Bobby Beasley chose to put Walton voters at risk and bought these unreliable machines.

Walton county needs a Supervisor of Elections who has the proper high tech computer skills to do the job. That person is Ray Padgett.

Walton County citizens are fortunate so have such a highly qualified and experienced professional as Ray Padgett offer to take on this responsibility that is so critical to our democracy.

Ditto. They should roll this position into the Clerk of Courts or some other office. I'm sure a clerk in that office could handle the responsibilities and save us some money.

On the same note, it was humorous how so many of the local democratic "machine" were out pushing the paper ballots. I guess they were afraid that Bush would steal the election if we used touch screens.
