That really looks like the thing that tried to eat Augie Doggie one morning about a month ago. It was in our backyard near Grayton State Park. At the time, I thought it might be a really, really big red fox.

They are beautiful, but I really hope they aren't living in my back yard.

I saw one on Thursday morning. It was casually strolling down the side of 98 (exact location withheld). I thought it was a coyote until seeing this video. I've seen lots of coyotes in the wild but never a Red Wolf... until now.

Some interesting info regarding the Red Wolf per eNature.com . . .

"The number of Red Wolves in existence is constantly changing, but recent counts indicate that there are at least 250 animals, most of which are in captive breeding facilities in the United States. There are perhaps 25 to 5O Red Wolves in the wild at Alligator River and perhaps 10 to 20 in the Great Smokies. Several other wolves live in the wild in a few other locations."

"Coyote is smaller, with smaller nose pad and hindfoot. Gray Wolf is larger."

"Range Originally se U.S, north to Missouri, Indiana, and Virginia, and west to Texas, but extirpated from all but sw Louisiana and se Texas by 1900. Reintroduced into Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, in Dare County, North Carolina; Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee; Bull Island, South Carolina; Horn Island, Mississippi; and St. Vincent Island, Florida."

AMAZING!!! I live at Heron's Watch and some people say that they've seen Coyotes, at the dumpster. Betcha, it was Red Wolves! They're beautiful, but, I don't want them near my little 10 yr.old Yorkie, Twinky. Though, she'd probably give em, a good fight!;-) She makes up for her size, with her mouth!
