working the Friday before New Years...

How do you get a job with a decent company that gives the week between holidays off? I always seem to think I've found "the one."

UM...you don't!! Take solace, for I am in the same boat as you Lucky!! We worked the Friday before Christmas, the day after and today. . .in the past we have even had to work on New Year's Eve and Christmas Eve--although, I'm never really quite sure why since NO ONE ELSE IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS are working but us !! Just gives me time to actually post on SOWAL from time to time!

Don't feel alone lucky.....I was here the day after Christmas and I'm here today. Thank goodness for the looooonnnnnggg holiday though. I'm so looking forward to the weekend!:clap_1:

I just heard that next Tuesday (Jan 2) has been declared a national holiday/day of mourning by President Busch. Federal Offices will be closed due to former President Ford's funeral.

My feelings about working today stem from a bunch of other crap going on around here. Oh well, I'll look on the bright side that we do have Monday off and I do not have to take 20 teenagers to an all nighter like I was expecting!

It's actually my own fault that I'm at work; I have a couple of vacation days that I'm going to lose because I won't be able to use them before the end of the year. This place is a ghost town today and it's a great day to get work done without constant interruption. I'm finally catching up with the paperwork on my desk and I keep telling myself it's worth giving up a day off.

But that other voice inside me tells me I must be nuts!

ltb--that's what I'm doing off today....taking those extra days that I would lose. They're all pissed that I'm not there....but whaddaya gonna do?

You cannot carry any of your days over? We can carry 3 of our vacation days over into the next year, which is nice, but that is all. If you can't, that's a bummer.

We can actually carry over several vacation days as well, but I'm still a couple of days over. Oh well...I'll make sure to plan better next year!

I say enjoy the day off if you've got it! I shouldn't complain, I guess, I could have taken today off, or last Tuesday or this Tuesday, but I guess I was thinking I would rather take the days off when it's nuts around here and I really need a break!

and, when I can take more than one or two days and sowal it!
