Agreed - congrats to Italy on their win- hate that France lost with Zidane being kicked out - he has ALWAYS been a very very gracious player and it is sad that his finale will be marred by that awful head butt - I cannot wait to hear what he says about that - btw: he is originally from Algeria and has been an incredible mentor to so many in the younger generation - someone made some snide remark about his not looking french (as if there is such a thing as looking french!)Paula, thank you for kind words about buying me consolation wine -would love to see you anytime you are back here.

the head butt was very unfortunate...he will suffer the consequences...and that is enough said (his own demon to have to deal with, I will not add to his sorrow) It happens in all sports..emotions run rampant!The match was very enjoyable to me as a novice! I have never watched a soccer match...let alone a world cup! so much funn!

This is the first time my husband and I have watched a World Cup soccer match other than the other night. Born in Algeria huh, I read where he was born in Marseilles, France. Hum! But either way, he was not nice!

Zidane was born in Marseille but is of Algerian descent, and he definitely deserved that red card, no matter what Materazzi said or did to him (and I am sure it was something provocative.) Despite this sad end to his career, sports journalists did give Zidane the Golden Ball award (best player of the World Cup.) I hope France forgives him.

Miss Kitty has won Mother of the Year. MS, my son has watched every World Cup game and was lamenting the fact that we were landing here as the final began. So, after lunch, I found him an Irish pub chock full of people watching the final 10 minutes of the game and pushed our way in. It was an awesome experience to be around loud, drunk fans and watch the end! We then went outside where we all needed a beverage. Miss Kitty had a Colorado Bulldog and MS had a Bushmills with a splash. Mr. K and sarafunn had beers. We then went back to the hotel where I passed out for 4 hours...remember I had gotten up at 2:30 am!!!!
