Our city newspaper, like so many in the nation, has become slimmer and slimmer by the day. To the point that the biggest sections are sports, comics, and obituaries. Not always in that order.
So it's pretty hard not to miss all the obituaries! Some people have photos of when they were young and beautiful and others have photos taken closer to the time of death. I've seen obits of 90+ year old people and the photo is from the day they were married (most likely). It's rather touching to see the old-fashioned hairdos.
I suppose you have to give instructions to your loved ones about which photo to use? Who's going "old" and who's going "young." (And no, I never gave this much thought except that the obits have become such a part in our shrinking paper in comparison to all the other departments.)
