I just walked in the house after driving home from Destin. Between TopSail St. Pk and 395 we saw 24 deer, give or take 1 or 2. There must have been 6 or 7 groups, from 2 to 5 to a group, all on the south side of 98. :yikes:

Did they have funny costumes, a bonfire and likker? It may have been their mid-winter soiree...a doe-down.

I've been seeing 10-20 every night lately. They are covering the side of the highways. Use caution. I wonder if all of the prescribed burning has brought them out to find goodies to eat.

they are everywhere on East 98 too. This evening driving from PCB, there was a deer grazing not six feet off the highway near where the new Publix is being built. He did not even move as the cars raced past...

Oh, always on 98. I always hate flying into PC on a stormy night. Not for the landing, for all the deer out grazing the wet grass on 98.

Where they building Publix in PCB?

Publix is going up just beyond the Home Depot, east toward PCB on the north side of 98.

We really do need to be more cautious when there is a controlled burn going on. Several years there was a highway death associated with a controlled burn. An untold number of breathing troubles and health issues take place. The displacement of deer could cause a serious accident. They can and do get out of control. Roads are sometimes blocked. This is especially scary if you are driving your children home from an event late in the evening. There are very few alternate access roads. I worry more about evacuation during a fire than a hurricane. Wonder if those "in control" of the "controlled" burn consider these issues? We appreciate those that alert us to these controlled burns so that we can take extra, extra precautions.

good point.

It would be interesting to know if the EOC has a different evacuation plan for fire, than for hurricanes...I worry a lot about these "controlled burns"--and the deer grazing along the highway scare the daylights out of me...and seeing them running along Highway 98 is an everyday occurrence.

I have had several close encounters...and one incident where two deer "flew" over the hood of my car!:yikes:
