About this gallery
The large-scale beach restoration project was designed to repair critically eroded beaches due to successive storms. The method involved dredging sand from an underwater borrow site approximately one mile south of Destin's East Pass and pumping it onto the beach through a submerged pipeline. The sand was used to elevate the existing beach, construct a dune and widen the beach. Approximately 25,000 feet of beach was restored in western Walton County.
