Seaside REP Summer 2014 Lineup is Jam Packed

The Repertory Theatre, based in Seaside has a Summer full of entertainment for the whole family. With a range of shows and workshops, the season's offerings appeals to kids and adults - with children’s theatre, musical performances, one-act plays, improvisation classes and even a magician!

The headline “Summer Shorts” series of one-act plays opens on The REP’s main stage in Seaside, Florida on June 17th through August 1st and tickets are on sale now for $25 each at www.lovetherep.com.

Following last season’s sell-out show, The REP has invited back professional magician Jeanette Andrews to share her magic with family performances, kids’ workshops and thought-provoking magic shows. Hailed by national media as “an inspiration” and “magic for the twenty-first century,” magician Jeanette Andrews presents a new take on the art of the impossible. 

“If you attend any of The REP shows this summer, you will want to come again. Seaside Shorts – 7:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays, June 17 – August 1 at The REP Theatre, 216 Quincy Circle, Seaside, Florida, Tickets $25 each: Summer fun in Northwest Florida kicks off with The REP’s “Seaside Shorts.” Cool off at The REP while enjoying a variety of bite-sized short plays. This fast and furiously fun program puts audiences up close with The REP’s company of chameleon-like actors playing multiple characters in a series of 5-30 minute plays by well-known and emerging playwrights. Magic Family Performances at The REP with Jeanette Andrews– 1:00 p.m., Mondays & Wednesdays, June 16 – August 2, Tickets $20/adults and $10/kids: Nationally-acclaimed magician Jeanette Andrews presents a new take on the art of the impossible. Jeanette presented her first magic show at age four, began performing professionally at age six, and now as a full-time magician, she has performed for thousands across the country live and countless others on television. In this one-of-a-kind show, Jeanette will present both interactive pieces of magic and illusions choreographed to music. This elegant performance will leave your family enthralled and enchanted.

Perception: Jeanette Andrews Presents an Elegant Evening of Artful Magic– Thought-Provoking One-Woman Magic Show, 7:30 p.m., Saturdays, June 21 – August 2, Tickets $20/adults, $10/kids: Nationally hailed as “an inspiration,” and “magic for the twenty-first century,” Jeanette Andrews presents a new and thought-provoking take on the art of the impossible. Jeanette comes to The REP fresh off of performances the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and filming in Los Angeles for the Masters of Illusion television series, set to air nationally on the CW Network. In this one-of-a-kind performance experience, Jeanette will present both interactive pieces of magic and illusions choreographed to music.  Inspired by ideas about the importance of perception, this show is composed of a distinctive blend of magic with an elegant feel, and explores ideas based in Jeanette’s studies in psychology and art. Watch as an audience member’s thought’s become reality, a signed card transports across an impossible distance, a member of the audience is able to surmise Jeanette’s thoughts, and a white rose spins to life. This modern performance will leave you enthralled and enchanted.

Low Country Comedy Tour – 3:00 p.m. Matinée for all ages, 9:30 p.m. Late Night for Adults, July 5 & 6, Tickets $10 each and $7 for under 12 years old: For the third year in a row, The REP hosts Vince Fabra, Dusty Slay and Evan Berke, three of Charleston's funniest stand-up comics, for the 2014 Low Country Comedy Tour.

Awkward Oxen Improv Hour – 11:00 a.m. – Noon, Fridays, June 13, 20 & 27 and July 11, 18 & 25 at Fonville Press, Alys Beach. Free for all ages: A fun, interactive, and fast-paced comedy show that’s fun for the whole family and groups of all ages. Join The REP’s improv troupe, The Awkward Oxen, as they play improv games, and make up scenes and songs on the spot based on audience suggestions.

Seaside – Sponsored by the Merchants of Seaside Commedia Cinderella, 6:30 p.m., Mondays, May 19 – August 11 at Seaside’s Amphitheatre, Free for all ages: The REP puts a slapstick spin on one of the world’s most famous fairy tales. Beautiful Cinderella is forced to work as a kitchen maid but she still has a chance to win the hand of the handsome Prince.

Stories by the Sea, 4:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, June 2 – August 15 at Seaside’s Lyceum Archway, Free for all ages: Join The REP Theatre professional actors as they present an interactive and one-of-a-kind storytelling experience for children of all ages.

Rosemary Beach – Sponsored by the Merchants of Rosemary Beach Androcles and the Lion, 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, May 28 – August 6 at Rosemary Beach’s North Barrett Square, Free for all ages: A singing mouse, an escaped servant, and a hungry lion form an unlikely trio of friends whose bond is put to the test by an evil Emperor in this enchanting and heartwarming play.
