The most recent SoWal Real Estate Report covers all of Walton County including South Walton real estate activity for May 2019, with statistics for single family homes, townhomes, and condos in Walton County, Florida. Single family homes closed sales were up 3.4% for May 2019 compared to the same month last year. The number of pending sales for Walton County was up 4.7%. Inventory was down 2.6%. Sacred Heart Health System, part of Ascension Florida, has officially begun construction of a healthcare facility in the Watersound Origins community in eastern SoWal, in collaboration with Commercial Real Estate Development, LLC, a subsidiary of the St. Joe Company. The new healthcare facility broke ground on May 28 and will be at the entrance of Watersound, 20 miles east of Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. Chris Alvarado, Owner & Founder of Driftwood Guitars, has a new project to build a one-of-a-kind guitar in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock music festival. The neck of the guitar will be crafted out of wood from the historic Woodstock stage. The Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA) has opened a new Pottery Studio at the Bayou Arts Center in Santa Rosa Beach. Classes will begin in Fall with reservations being on a first-come, first-served basis. The gift of pottery equipment several years ago by long-time CAA members and artists Tom and Karen McGee was the catalyst for the idea of the Pottery Studio, which came to fruition through a generous donation from Shawn and Richard Tomasello. In the 1940s and 1950s families that visited SoWal every Summer stayed in quaint cottages - some were simple and practical concrete block homes that stayed cooler on hot days and defied the elements. Invasive plants are out-competing native varieties in our coastal dune lakes here in South Walton. In order to make room for the native species - which better support wildlife - the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) and the AmeriCorps team will begin to remove the vegetation this month. The 23rd Annual Rags 2 Riches Regatta will return to Grayton Beach on Saturday, June 29, 2019.
