BR, that is horrible. I was going to ask if you still had them until I read that. Were they jealous of your dolls or what?
I have about 6 dolls that were like MA's (imitations probably) that my mom always ordered from the Sears catalog. I loved looking at then and changing their clothes. I thought they were the most beautiful thing ever. I always thought I'd save them for my daughter someday. She could care less. :sosad:
I have no clue why they tore them up. Mother just let them do whatever they wanted - they were terrors - because she apparently had severe depression. My dad dropped dead unexpectedly of a heart attack at 54 (she was 44) and left her with a 6-year-old, an 8-year-old, and a college freshman 500 miles away (Tulane). I didn't know how bad things were at home until my sister told me a few years ago.

Except for American Girl dolls, my daughter's like yours - she never cared much for her "fancy" dolls. She still is more of a stuffed animal person. I promise you that Nala (from The Lion King) will be with her on her honeymoon!

Kimmi, it's really sad that you were frightened by those dolls.

Aww, that's cute. My daughter has a Simba "Baba" that she got when she was 16 months old. We can still quote The Lion King....."Lifes not fair is it...for I shall never be king...and you shall never see the light of another day..." Oh yeah, I forgot to mention she did and probably still does like her American girl dolls.

Tootsie, I remember hook rugs and making potholders was the best!!!!

How different things are today. If you gave your child a potholder maker (loom) they probably would think you are crazy...

OMG! I thought that I was the only nerd who made potholders. Another favorite toy I had was a surrey-with-the-fringe-on top that I pretended was my car. I made a sign that said "Potholders For Sale," taped it to the surrey, and would sit for hours at the end of the driveway waiting for someone to buy some. Problem was that we lived on a cul-de-sac, so there was no through traffic. Occasionally a neighbor would feel sorry for me and buy a couple.

Yeah, kids today would think you're crazy if you gave them one. :rotfl: *I* think it was goofy. What the heck was the point of that craze?

I LOVED arts and crafts. today they have jewelry making, beading and other neat stuff for girls and boys to do... I crotcheted a set of golf club covers for my Dad (crimson and white / Bama colors) - and he actually used them.
