Just chart alchohol consumption in different places and there you have your season.

Mardis gras
Carnivale' (Rio, Venice, etc.)
Palio
Octoberfest
Cinco De Mayo
Christmas parties
Nascar season
etc.

Most of our early evolution came about in tropical African regions so I don't think the seasons made a difference.

Now, Spring is when love is in the air. Winter is when people share beds more.

There used to be an old BBC show called "The Hairless Ape" that aired here as "The Human Animal". The show would look at the evolutionary reasons behind human behaviors...i.e., why do men like red lips and blushing? why an hourglass figure? The answer to the question was that there was no mating season because humans needed two people caring for the baby in order to insure it's survival. A libido that wasn't tied strictly to reproduction created a stronger pair bond, and dad was more likely to stick around and provide for baby. As for the timing of births, it probably was the case that more children were conceived in the fall when food was plenty, because human women don't ovulate when there isn't much food available. Ever been on a serious crash diet? Same thing.

I understand that it is now mating season for Deer. This got me thinking... Is there a Mating Season for people? I am sure we get distracted by things such as work and holidays, but I wonder if deep inside us there could be such a thing as mating season for us peeps.

Thoughts or comments? :dunno:

As an undergrad I took a senior level (4000 level) anthropology course, which dealt with human sexuality. My professor said that the most common time of year for people to have sex and for women to get pregnant is this time of year, from Thanksgiving to New Years. An explanation is that we are eating so much more than we normally do and the body takes this as good news and allows for maximum sexual output. Not to mention, we are able to spend more time with our significant other, so it can be inferred that more time on one's hands lends itself to more time for sex.

I hope Grayton Kid or other sensitive eyes don't read this

I don't think there's any "mating season." If there was a season, it would presumably be optimal, and we already know that never happens. You'd never have babies born in February in freezing cold Alaska or August in sultry New Orleans! Babies come when they will, whether it's convenient or not. So there blows the idea of there being a season. Mating happens...all the time.
