We have chocolate ice cream in the freezer but I won't touch it. I do not need something waking me up in the night like that. What is it with the ice cream causing so much trouble for people? :dunno:
I never had the problem with ice-cream until about three years ago.

I know what the problem is.:nono1:

It's that Pretzel, strawberry, cool whip, cream cheese, spaghettios, what else was in that dessert y'all wanted me to try?

Seriously though LadyD, see a doctor and I hope you get the relief and answers you need. ;-)

Ok, I went to the doctor today for my stomach problems. Took my blood pressure, temperature, felt of my stomach as I told them my stomach was tender and had a gnawing, burning feel to it along with alot of belching and burning behind the breastbone. Put me on Protonix 40 mg., nothing said as to what they thought it was. Even mentioned the bad stomach ache I had 3 weeks ago along with the vomiting and bleeding. Spent 5 minutes with me at the most and sent me on my way. Stomach is still sore to the touch. Hope this stuff helps. Not that the Prilosec OTC hadn't helped some.

Sorry that I missed this thread earlier LadyD:bang: It concerns me that you describe a sensation of pain radiating to your back. That one phrase would have earned you a fairly exhaustive cardiac workup in your local ER. If the medication you were prescribed does not work in a few days, you can add ranitidine 150mg twice daily (aka Zantac, but no sense in paying top $ for the brand name). If you take a daily aspirin or lots of stuff like ibuprofen or naproxen I would stop (let your doc know you are stopping the aspirin!). If you drink lots of Pepto-Bismol, stop, it is full of aspirin. Diet modification may help-try small meals and cut out the caffeine as much as is possible. The problem with dairy products is that calcium and fats slow down gastric emptying, so food sits in your stomach and lots of acid is produced, and heartburn sets in. I know you have good reason to be wary of endoscopy, but they give you good medication during the procedure and it isn't nearly as frightening as a 'breathing tube' in your throat-the endoscope is a thin wire that goes down your esophagus (food pipe), not your trachea (windpipe). At any rate, I wouldn't let this go for much longer. PM me and let me know how you are doing...if failures continue, I have a few suggestions on stuff you can prod your doc into doing:D

That ice cream thing is a condition called "lactose intolerance." It is very common with adults and quite common in dogs and some cats even. Its symptoms are very alarming and uncomfortable, apparently. I am not a great fan of ice cream, thank goodness. This new yummy stuff is just way too rich for me and I prefer to parse my calories out in other ways. My dad was famous for filling a mixing bowl full of "pah-nilla" ice cream covered with Hershey's syrup and eating the whole thing with a serving spoon in the middle of the night. He wasn't fat, but he didn't live long enough. Now that I think of it, he also loved these wonderful ice cream treats of that day, which were dark chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream combined in a roll that looked like a jelly roll. My, my...those were lovely!
