Sorry that I missed this thread earlier LadyD

It concerns me that you describe a sensation of pain radiating to your back. That one phrase would have earned you a fairly exhaustive cardiac workup in your local ER. If the medication you were prescribed does not work in a few days, you can add ranitidine 150mg twice daily (aka Zantac, but no sense in paying top $ for the brand name). If you take a daily aspirin or lots of stuff like ibuprofen or naproxen I would stop (let your doc know you are stopping the aspirin!). If you drink lots of Pepto-Bismol, stop, it is full of aspirin. Diet modification may help-try small meals and cut out the caffeine as much as is possible. The problem with dairy products is that calcium and fats slow down gastric emptying, so food sits in your stomach and lots of acid is produced, and heartburn sets in. I know you have good reason to be wary of endoscopy, but they give you good medication during the procedure and it isn't nearly as frightening as a 'breathing tube' in your throat-the endoscope is a thin wire that goes down your esophagus (food pipe), not your trachea (windpipe). At any rate, I wouldn't let this go for much longer. PM me and let me know how you are doing...if failures continue, I have a few suggestions on stuff you can prod your doc into doing
