Speak up if you don't agree.:clap_1:

My stomach hurts. I've had too much Spam.

I have a few things to say.....

  1. All you sowal wenches are the best medicine a person could ever have and I luv all of ya!! Laughter is truely the best medicine....but
  2. Josh, I believe that you are young and have never been in a situation that would make you think twice about dogging the term "clinical depression" and having to turn to prozac or some other drug.... I for one am NOT a pill popper. I rarely take tylenol or anything else for that matter. After the last few weeks of PURE HELL in my life I decided that I needed and had to turn to certain drugs to help me cope and to be a better mom and wife and friend. SOOOO, Yes there are some people that abuse the word and the drugs BUT there are some people out there who just need it to help them. Kudos to the people who invented the stuff. It can help in times of need....
  3. please note that this is MY opinion and thats all i have to say about that......

  I am glad that you had this outlet to help you cope! Most of us have needed this from time to time...better than crawling into a bottle or deep depression (which is not healthy for anyone!)

As the resident Pharmacist, gotta add my 2 cents here. I'm glad that you decided to get some help with your recent tragedy IBD. What has happened to you is situational depression which occurs from exogenous circumstances (outside of your control). When someone suffers such stress, their neurotransmitter stores (that make your neurons/nerves fire) become depleted. Anti-depressants increase the production of neurotransmitters in the body to replentish the stores. Generally 30 -90 days is sufficient to restore the storehouses of it.

This is a physiological condition and it's real. Anti-depressants don't get you high. They are not happy pills. They are more akin to thyroid or diabetes medications than they are to pain killers or tranquilizers (which have a place in situations such as yours)

In any event, some people misuse and overuse anti-depressants. They become a crutch and can actually make the depression worese if used for an extended period of time. Here's why: There is a feedback system in the body for all chemicals that it produces. When you continue to replentish those chemicals with pills, the body says whoa, there's enough, I don't have to make anymore. The longer that goes on, the longer the internal production system shuts down and the harder it is to get it started back up again.

There are situations to use anti-depressants. yours is definitely one. There are situations when other meds may be appropriate or when people are misclassifying lack of motivation etc, as clinic depression when it's not.

That's my professional input. $60 please :rotfl: Hope it's not too technical but you are right on girl!
