Before we left on our trip, I noticed the dryer didn't want to start, but later thought that I probably just didn't set the timer..I didn't really care about too much that day, it seems.
Anyway, after we returned, mr. dd did a a load of laundry from the trip (bless his heart) and announced to me that the dryer wouldn't start. I told him I had tried it before we left with the same result. So today, while I was working on my Valentine card, he bought parts, tore the thing apart and replaced parts, to no avail. So then he comes and tells me we're going dryer shopping. I think to myself, "dang it! there goes my new vacuum cleaner!" We go to Home Depot. Well....I had forgotten what a picky shopper he is, and frankly never realized he even gave a hoot about how many different cycles are on a dryer! They only had one he liked, but it was out of stock, so he storms out and tells me to "come on--we're goin' to Best Buy." We looked at dryers for over an hour. Came home. No dryer. He is now hanging all those wet clothes on hangers in the laundry room. This is going to turn into an ordeal I can already tell. Wish me luck sowallers, I see a clothesline in my future!

DD, tell your dear sweet husband that Maytags are wonderful. The story you just told us about your dead dryer, well, I went through that with my washer! How about this for a scenario: Merman's brother and SIL came for a visit from the UK and the washer died. NOT a good time. They've only been to the US two times in their whole life and they think the US is the absolute best for technology and they come to our house and the washer is kaput. Like talk about good timing. I had all my neighbors doing wash for me while I had company! If I were the kind of person who was easily embarrassed, I'd have been super embarrassed, carrying laundry to all my friends. The upshot of the story was that we got this wonderful extra capacity Maytag, but it created a snowball effect: we had to buy a extra capacity dryer to match it. Duh.

BTW, don't laugh, but I bought some dryer balls. Maybe I saw it advertised on late night TV. Or maybe in the Parade section of the Sunday paper. I don't know where I found out about dryer balls, but from the minute I did, I had to have dryer balls!!!!! Laugh all you want. I bought my dryer balls ($10 for two of them) and they're amazing. They go bang bang bang in the dryer but I'll darned, they dry the wash in less time and at a lower temperature, and I've totally foresworn fabric softener. I don't need it anymore. I love my balls.

I wanted those cool red front load washers and dryers we saw yesterday. But if I settle for a generic white, I might still get my vacuum!! :D

While we are on the topic of dryer balls and loaders, yes, a front loader is the way to go. Best wash ever.

Good luck DD finding the right dryer to test those dryer balls in. :D
