I've been trying to convince my mom to try FLVS with my younger siblings. It looks like a good deal, unless you really don't want the extra "oversight".

We've been informally using a preschool curriculum for my 2.5 y/o ( no pressure, only when he asks to do it). It's called Little Hands to Heaven. Again, it's very Biblically based. It's cute. I don't make a big scene out of it though. I'll use it full time, maybe, starting next year.
I really have no idea how I'm going to do this. It's very overwhelming to me, but I know I always rise to the occasion. But, in a way... it's the only thing I know, so sending him to school would be extremely foreign to me.

Has anyone tried okaloosa or walton county virtual school? My son was not doing well in school at destin middle, but now getting A's online.

Just took a look at it - very interesting. I'm going to look at it again tomorrow with husband and to-be sixth grader. Thanks!

RiverOtter "oldest little otter..... would you like mom to stay home and homeschool you?"...........

Oldest LittleOtter "ummmmm...... No Thanks"

RiverOtter "BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: "

Not busting on homeschooling at all. Just my highly excitable wifey

We had the opposite conversation.

GK: "Mom, will you please homeschool me?"
S1: "Are you serious? Do you want us to like each at all?"

I can barely help him with his homework. Papa Bear has to do it because I get so :pissed: !

Organicmama,
I homeschooled my daughter for 4th grade. We had my son in the SWMA Montessori school out in Rosemary, and at the time, they didn't go through the fourth grade. I wanted to incorporate the Montessori philosophy and materials into her homeschooling. I went online and searched - there are several helpful sites by searching homeschooling Montessori. I used materials from the Michael Olaf catalog, joined the Jr. Master Gardener program at Eden Gardens, where the kids (and parents) got a lot of hands on experience, got involved in 4H, used a lot of the American Girls' curriculum (my daughter really loved this - it's history based) utilized the Gulfarium and joined the GCCHEA - Gulf Coast Christian Home Educator's Association.

It is very active in Okaloosa and a had a smaller group of Walton parents and kids. It might be different now because this was 3 years ago. It made it a little more difficult for us to be able to participate because most of the activities took place in Okaloosa.
The things we did get to participate in were great - we saw the gentleman who dresses up as Ben Franklin and gives history lessons, watched a beekeeper give a talk on his career and brought his equipment for the kids to see, made projects for the seniors and took them to the Retirement center, and had a great honors banquet at the end of the school year. This was wonderful because you could honor whatever you wanted to, being helpful to siblings, improved spellers, whatever you wanted to give recognition for. My daughter was a struggling reader. She worked hard all year and ended up reading 35 books! This was a huge accomplishment for her. I gave her an award for the most improved reader. Her smile says it all!

My daughter went to the SWMA for 5th grade, loved it and is now at Seaside. She is doing very well there. Homeschooling is not for everyone; but I really felt it helped her tremendously to have one on one help and it helped her self-confidence.

I know there is a group of parents homeschooling in Rosemary now. I don't believe it is Montessori based. I could put you in contact with them if you are interested and they can tell you about it.
This is a link for you www.montessori.edu/homeschools.html
