Yes, they did replace it with a ham and cheese sandwich, but my son said it looked gross and he was glad he didn't have pb&j.

I guess they were trying to be helpful, the first I heard of the recall was on my way to work, I'm guessing they did it in case other parents hadn't heard it either. We are a small catholic school and it seems our principal does A LOT of stuff that would not be allowed in public schools.

Who knows, they may have saved your child's life. I give them a ^5 for snatching the pb&j's.

:clap_1: they do now, that's for sure.

actually, we just started buying "skippy natural/creamy". It's low sugar and no transfat. doesn't separate and the boys really likey. I'll always prefer Jif though.

I think the school would be in serious trouble if they knew about the peanut butter problem and didn't do something. taking away a sandwich won't hurt anyone. letting them eat it could.
Amen, sometimes the rules don't fit the situation. For some reason I am thinking of NOLA.

We had some of the dreaded 2111 Peter Pan also, purchased in SoWal in late December. (Actually the PCB Publix) My mother bought it and ate some right away. She became ill 48 hours after our arrival. She swore it was food poisoning but I didn't see any way how it could be, because the only cooked meals we had were eaten by everybody. I assumed it was a virus -- and it may well have been.

My BIL, who was staying in the same house as my mom, was violently ill also. One of my sons got it and my husband got it later in the week. (We were the ones who took the peanut butter home with us!)

Now, if anybody gets sick in my house I always get it because of lack of sleep and getting slurped and drooled on all the time. But I didn't get it this time. :dunno: Incidentally I am a peanut butter snob. Since trying the Smucker's Natural, the kind you have to mix up and then keep in the fridge, I now know what real peanut butter tastes like and can't eat the other stuff. The Peter Pan did not cross my lips.

I was out of the Smuckers but got some after our SoWal trip. I had the Peter Pan in our pantry as backup but tossed it yesterday. I think it's been used at least a few times since then. Skunky, any idea how long salmonella can survive in a jar of peanut butter?

Now, maybe everyone had just a virus. If so it was a baffling virus.

Whatever hubby had ruined his Disney Marathon run. Wonder if he can sue? :D
