I understand the importance for ConAgra to inform the people to dispose of the jars of peanut butter made in plant #211. However, it also makes it conveniently easier for ConAgra to deny your claims in the lawsuits if you were harmed by their products.

So how long has this stuff been out there? At least since December...that's really scary.
I believe one of the news reports I heard today mentioned people claiming food poisoning from the peanut butter as far back as July '06. What ConAgra has done until they determine the specific cause, is to pull all peanut butter made in that particular factory in GA, hence the 211... code. They have to work their way down to the actual source of contamination.

I bet Jif will start airing the old commercial "Choosy mothers choose Jif!!
You're right, now would be a good time. I've eaten JIF Crunchy for 43 years!

We were talking about this at lunch today. I have a jar at home of the Great Value brand that they sell at Walmart. So, if it is in Great Value, and Peter Pan wouldn't that be the EXACT same peanut butter? I paid alot less for the "off brand (Great Value)" than I would have for the "name" brand Peter Pan. So, how do they get away with that. Just slapping another label on the jar and asking you to pay more for it?
The way I understood it, was that Great Value buys the same peanut butter in volume, puts their label on it, and sells it at a reduced price as a leader/bait item. This is done with sodas, cleaning products and other items as well.

Why am I craving peanut butter and spinach? :dunno:

BTW...Jif rules.

I say, let's start sharing our favorite Peanut Butter Sandwich recipes. I haven't done the PB and spinach yet...Maybe for lunch.

I like JIF Crunchy, on toasted bread, with pickles and Tabasco! GRAYT!!

However, now that we're talking about it, I'll have to go make one. Or two!

Yes a trans fat, nitrate filled, pork based, ham sandwich is better.
:funn: :rotfl: :rotfl: :lolabove: I agree.

On a serious note though, I forgot to write what I meant to write when I looked into this thread!
A friend of mine from work was rushed to the hospital Tuesday. She has had many complications with her pregnancy and we just thought she was going into early labor, though only by a couple of weeks. Anywho, turns out she has salmonella poisoning from the Peter Pan Peanut Butter!
We're still waiting to find out if the unborn baby has or will be affected!
We're also waiting to find out whether they are going to induce labor or let it go naturally.
Also to add insult to injury, the original "photos" showed a little boy, so we spent a fortune on a "boy" baby shower. Now they say its going to be a girl. If so I hope she looks good in the little hunting outfit and baseball outfits I got her!

That's so sad. Prayers going their way.
