Great quotes.... King's quote says it all. My older brother was interviewed by Rickover before service on nuclear subs. Rickover would try to freak you out to see if you could handle being underwater for weeks on end in a giant metal tube. His methods worked, as he was a genius. I am no fan of Truman, but he served in the worst of times. Mohandas Ghandi-- "An eye for an eye ends up making the whole world blind"..... I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."...."It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business"...." The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong"...."Be the change that you want to see in the world".

LOVE of course!!

Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding (Albert Einstein). The practice of compassion is sorely lacking in the world today and the edges of religion keep getting sharper - hard to see if love will conquer over fear. But one can certainly hope.

You can't just answer a simple question can you hunny?

Then I feel really REALLY sorry for you. You have to believe that you can make change before you are capable of it!

It was a stupid question. It's like me asking if you'd prefer $100 or a kick in the groin. Everyone will choose the cash, but to ask the question and think you are profound is silly. As for feeling sorry for me, don't worry about me, I'm doing just fine. I know I'm capable of living in peace, it's just those damn pesky Muslims that won't allow it.

Understanding or pacifism?

Help me understand why we don't have world trade centers any longer.

That is a reasonable question, 6th. I have some questions/observations to pass along. In some of your posts, you seem to be lecturing and talking down to folks. I might really enjoy learning things from you if it wasn't written in an attack mode. What are you trying to accomplish here? When I see you "attack" people, it is a complete turn off and I might be missing some thought provoking info from you. I feel the same about our politicians, but I can hope to see better from you. BTW...you are not the only offender here, but calling people names because of who they voted for or how they think is juvenile in my book.

You know perfectly well AND if you do not, guaranteed that your beliefs and mine will clash and we will both end up frustrated, exasperated and annoyed (I know I will, and surmise you would too because regardless of the fact that I disagree with so much of what you post, you seem to feel as strongly and passionately as I do about some of these topics).

Beautiful day and not interested in arguing and know I am about to be blitzed on another post on Clinton....

"Peace requires more than pie-eyed verbiage. In the real world, peace has no chance until the people who want to give death squads another shot have been dispatched from the scene." - Jonah Goldberg

SJ,
Have you read much about Mother Teresa? Hitchens has published some pretty eye-opening stuff on her.

Eye opening to whom? Hitchens is just a shock journalist that makes Micheal Moore look like he should be canonized. The name of his book alone, a purposeful disgusting double or triple entendre, only serves to prove that we will never achieve any modicum of peace in this world when an icon of generosity, who loved all religions, cultures and even the likes of Hitchens, is criticized so arrogantly, almost maliciously and with self serving intent.

Planting seeds of love instead of fear is a gift that we should all freely give.

Sorry that I read through this part too quickly. It is very true. My thought of the question posed is that it has more than one question within the question. On one side of the question is with the respondent being the person of action, in which your above words would be the answer. The flip side, would be where the respondent to the question would be on the receiving end, and that was my interpretation of the question on which I based my answer.

The question is much larger than the simply words may appear. It is much like a work of art, each viewer will bring forth their experience when determining their answer, and each viewer's thoughts on the subject are open to change as time passes, and we encounter new experiences.

I never said anything about anyone being burned by love, nor did I mean that.

Sorry - I made an assumption. Also --- I might want to consider not posting after my bed time, or learn to use spell check more often.:D

It is nice to hear that you are capable of living in peace. I would like to offer that I live in peace. (Although calling Altel this morning tested that theory. )

It may seem like a silly question to you, but a lot of people pick fear - only they don't realize that they have a choice. That is the core of it ... Realizing that each of us have a choice in the matter. We can't control what other people do or say, but we can control how we react to it. That creates peace. Me laughing at myself because I was getting frustrated instead of yelling at the Altel lady on the other end of the phone - that was a choice. I hope that the lady I talked to hung up the phone smiling -- not saying "I hope SHE doesn't call again!"
