"Peace requires more than pie-eyed verbiage. In the real world, peace has no chance until the people who want to give death squads another shot have been dispatched from the scene." - Jonah Goldberg

SJ,
Have you read much about Mother Teresa? Hitchens has published some pretty eye-opening stuff on her.

You are anti Mother Theresa?

Congratulations, I didn't think you could still surpise me!

Yes, like I'm anti-a lot of Catholic practices. I'm against selling indulgences as well, so as to avoid startling you in the future.

Spending your life living in poverty and devoting yourself to helping those undergoing great suffering.........

You're right, nothing admirable there!

I don't agree with all of the Catholic churches ideas or policies, but many who have chosen the religious life do a great deal of good.

I?ve posted my complaints with her, and you can decide for yourself if you are willing to live with her faults and hypocrisy. She could have done an enormous amount of good if she?d have spent a fraction of what she raised on a new hospital in Calcutta, but she never was devoted to the healing of people, which she?s honest about, she was devoted to giving others a Catholic death. She was clear that she loved poverty, and it could easily be argued that she loved suffering and death. The Bible is very clear on the burying of talents, and the funds that were donated to her are unaccounted for and her convent, from what I?ve read, I?ve never been to Calcutta, Chickpea, was still in squalor when she died despite tens of millions of dollars/francs/pounds/lira that flowed into it.

True, even if it wasn't very bright, I love the war Nathan Bedford Forrest fought, with 29 horses shot out from under him. I just needed to quote Patton to somewhat even it out with all of the hippies and peyote smokers on here.
LBJ grew his hair long after he "retired". He must have had a huge suppy of hill country thunderweed to keep the Vietnam War going. One of the first things Nixon did after being sworn in was to remove the mobile "war room" from Air Force One. Here's two waiting forever for Mt. Rushmore.

I don't think we'll see peace until we can stop the blanket condemnations of groups of people and the tearing down of anyone who tries to help others & promote peace.

Following that, this is beyond reproach.

If only you put as much energy into POSITIVE thinking and ideas as you do into negative ones.

OBVIOUSLY me saying that stereotypes, an us vs. them mentality, and personal attacks that overlooked the good work people did, were contrary to peace meant that I supported Hanoi Jane!

No, you said you were I against ?the tearing down of anyone who tries to help others & promote peace?. Jane Fonda was, or at least she thought she was, promoting peace. You made a blanket statement that as long as someone is working towards peace, their means are not subject to question. I?ve always been a glass half full type, but my half full was believing that the US could defeat communism in North Vietnam.

You believe that MT is beyond reproach. I do not. It?s that simple.
