I love birds. I don't feed them though, because I have two cats that live outside and don't want them to be dinner. I see hawks every day on the way home--they are wonderful. Saw one the other day catch a grackle in mid-air.
I placed it in a rather open area, but that was before we cleared out a lot of underbrush. Maybe I'll try again.gotta put them in a place where the birds can fly into easily with no fear of somthing eating them. Look at the placement, better out in the open.
Plus you hafta do something about the damn squirrels (at least around here)
I love bird watching, too. I stopped feeding birds in GA because I got paranoid about bird flu. But I miss watching them. Maybe I'll start feeding them again.I love birds. I don't feed them though, because I have two cats that live outside and don't want them to be dinner.

................can't think of a better end for a grackle - they are a nuisance!
grackles! They think they're birds too...
.
part 1: i put up a small wire fence around the base of the feeders - it keeps out my cats and makes the birds feel more secure (i assume they do, anyway)
