I'm glad you found Northwest Florida! I think your term "implant" is more appropriate than transplant! :lol: I like it.

I like the implant term too......although I have been here since 1972, went to Bay Elem, etc......I came from New Jersey at the tender age of 9. Culture shock...big time. We didn't say ma'am, sir, etc...by God, I do now!!! Had a teacher push me out of my desk onto the floor for not saying Ma'am. Probably didn't understand her, with the accent, and she probably couldn't understand me...it was aweful. Things have definitely changed for the better since then.

You should consider that whatever the confederate flag means to you, to black Americans, it represents an ugly stain in American history that remains extremely painful. I don?t understand why you would knowingly want to offend 10% of the population.

Ugly sentiments on the order of ?go back where you came from? aren?t helpful and don?t add anything productive, but I don?t suppose that was the intent.
I don't mind the tag at all. We have honored every other war and whether you agree with the reason for the war or not, the souls that fought and died are still worth honoring. I if I am not mistaken, wasn't it a Black American who requested the tag in the first place? If they don't like it they don't have to buy it.

I remember the quote of Sowal member "Bob" the last time this thread was hashed out, I think it sums it up succinctly, no matter which war you're speaking of....

"In war, when you win you tend to move on, when you lose you really never let it go."

P.S. I was born and raised in the N.Y. metroplitan area by 2 "displaced" Southerners, I have now spent 3/4 of my life in the South, and wouldn't trade it for anything.

I still say yes sir and no ma'am. Some people have been offended by it because there was only a small difference in our age. It's not about age. I was taught it was good manners and a sign of respect:dunno:

yes, I was taught the same, and it was more important than church.

it is still important, but some of us have come up with our own little variations or expressions of respect.

this would make a very interesting thread because I know we all have our different expectations or variations on this subject of cultural manners.

I've seen peoples eyes light up when I have used that term and been respectful towards them. Usually people who are bagging grocery's, checking out my merchandise, or waiting my table, because I don't think it's something they hear often. Respect will open doors with locks that no other key can turn;-)

That's just a whole boat load of stupid (the song, not you). I give you the one quote from that song that bothered me the most:

I hate the declaration of independence

Which in my opinion would most likely be attributed to the line in the declaration:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.


This is the fundamental purpose of the declaration of independence and without it the "South" would most likely be under Spanish or French control.

Finally what bothers me most is the on going division of the North and South. I was born in the South and consider myself a Southerner. That makes me no better than a Northerner. My blood is from the North and the South. Most folks' are. Can't we just get to a point in history that we can leave certain things in the history books and move on? Seriously folks the last confederate soldier died, what, 50 some odd years ago?

This is my flag and I am proud of it (luckily I can purchase this on almost any specialty Florida tag).
