Fat free cheese is disgusting. It is really plastic.

:puke:

Add fat free sour cream and fat free ranch dressing to the list. Although there is one good thing that's low everything that doesn't taste too bad--the Breyers 100 (or maybe 90?) calorie sugar free churned vanilla ice cream. Not anywhere in the same league as Costco's vanilla ice cream, of course, but at least it's not rot gut, which is more than we can say about some other take-all-the-goodness-out food products. :blush:

I agree AL...I switched to real butter after my SIL pointed out to me that alot of times butter is more healthy and has alot less fats than some brands of margarine. And I am sorry but I am not eating fake cheese. I honestly think you might as well just eat the wrapper. I dont eat as much as I used to but when I do, its the real thing.
EDIT: I TOTALLY agree about the sour cream.. it doesnt even have any where near the same consistency of sour cream.

And, it doesn't melt. It just sorta morphs into a hard blob. Mermy, I can actually do the sour cream if it's ON something--well, maybe not.

aleonard said it well, use the good stuff, but a little goes a long way. I don't care what it is, the fat free, sugar free stuff all tastes like crap compared to the regular. Moderation or total abstinence of the real stuff is the key, regardless of whether it is cheese, butter, cranberry juice, cookies, etc.

I have found that low fat milk, and other milk products taste better than the whole fat, except butter. I missed the whole fat at first..but I now like the lite stuff better. Even the cranberry juice lite. Maybe it's just a matter of letting your taste buds get used to it.

Forget the fat free stuff...I ditto the fatless cheese...my dog won't eat it.

The weird tastes doesn't come from a lack of sugar, but rather from the artificial sweeteners. Fat is critical to our diets, and also keeps the brain going strong, however, too much is not good for one's health. It's all about balance. Same thing for sugars. I wish that instead of companies using artificial sweeteners, corn syrup, sucrose, fructose, etc, as their way of saying "no sugars," they would simply reduce the amount of sugars they put in their products. Whether or not the ingredient is sugar or nutrasweet (TM), the mind is hooked on the sweet tastes. The mind can quickly adjust that addiction to the sweet taste, by cutting back over a short period of time, thus, not wanting all of that sweet stuff.

Absolutely agree with that....most of the stuff in any processed food is poison! So is refined sugar. If you must do sugar...use unrefined raw sugar that looks like brown crystals. Stay away from Splenda, etc. (except for Stevia) it raises your blood sugar just like sugar.

There was a book I read back in the 80's:scratch:I think.. any whoo, the Sugar Blues ... any who... awesome read about Sugar;

"A multitude of common physical and mental ailments are strongly linked to the consuming of 'pure', refined sugar. Sugar taken every day produces a continuously overacid condition, and more and more minerals are required from deep in the body in the attempt to rectify the imbalance. Finally, in order to protect the blood, so much calcium is taken from the bones and teeth that decay and general weakening begin. Excess sugar eventually affects every organ in the body. Initially, it is stored in the liver in the form of glucose (glycogen). Since the liver's capacity is limited, a daily intake of refined sugar (above the required amount of natural sugar) soon makes the liver expand like a balloon. When the liver is filled to its maximum capacity, the excess glycogen is returned to the blood in the form of fatty acids. These are taken to every part of the body and stored in the most inactive areas: the belly, the buttocks, the breasts and the thighs.
