Good presents? Anyone have ideas? Running out of time for the former, but for Father's Day I thought about getting Merman one of those GPS thingies. There are lots of them on the market now and the prices have dropped considerably. Will anyone tell me about theirs? Or any other good presents they given/gotten!
For Mother's Day I was thinking of a gift certificate. Either for a restaurant or for a manicure and pedicure. (I wouldn't mind either myself.) I've given and gotten rose bushes. My mother is easy to please on Mother's Day because she really doesn't believe in it. She never cottoned to the idea that on one day you'd have to honor your mother. I can just hear her indignation. "One day! like one day only! Ha! The nerve!" I have to say that in all my livelong days I've never come across any other mother in the world who had quite the same approach about her one special day.
You know that all four of her children bought into it as soon as we were old enough to understand, seeing that it got us off the hook for buying her anything unless the spirit moved us. Though I have to say that Mama Mermaid has softened considerably in her dotage. ;-)
My mother was tons easier to deal with than Merman's mother because Mother's Day in the UK is in March, and where the heck can you find a card in March? If we didn't send a Mother's Day wishes in March, her feelings would be hurt, so we quickly learned to stockpile cards a year in advance. The first year we were married she had to wait until May since she had an American daughter-in-law, and trust me, I never made that mistake again. On the flip side, though, I always liked receiving cards in March from her, and then again from Merman and the kids in May.
