I was just joking LadyD....you are correct...the worst part of traveling for me is boarding our Molly. But, the rest of the time is such joy! After losing our first Sheltie, it took us 18 months before we were ready for another. I think the time for a new pet really varies for each person.

Did anyone happen to catch Oprah today? It was all about puppy mills and the deplorable conditions that these dogs are subjected to. They bathe and fluff up the pups when presented to the pet store. Yes, I did cry...alot. They also noted that about one third of the dogs in kill "shelters" are purebreds. So if anyone not wanting to go thru having the patience of an angel with a young puppy, this might be a consideration.

I didn't see the show, but heard her telling about it yesterday. I've never bought a dog from a pet store.
This is a different subject but, did anyone watch oprah yesterday the pg man show?

Well, I didn't get the puppy. My hubby wanted him also but doesn't want 9+ more years of tending to a dog and the expense. He was still available when we got back from the beach, the only one left of the 8 puppies. But he finally found a home Tuesday, with a family in Oakland, TN with 2 acres of land and a yellow lab that is a year old and they have a 8 year old daughter. Perfect setup for the little fella. He is being kept inside. Hubby has to sleep during the day and felt the puppy would be waking him up if he happened to hear him stiring around in the bedroom. But we have his picture on the refrigerator and can look at that cute puppy face anytime we want.

May I suggest that when you get back from your vacation, that you look into adopting an older lab or mix. Older dogs have less of a chance to get adopted but they are the best dogs. They will give you years of love and you don't have to deal with all the puppy stuff.
I know you will find the right dog for your family and life style.

The momma dog to our puppies was a shelter dog. You are right, older dogs are better dogs and deserve a home to live out their lives like younger dogs. If I can ever talk him into another dog I will go for an older one.

I have been torturing myself and my family with this background on my computer. We love corgis but they aren't hypo-allergenic and shed a lot!:sosad: I grew up with one and wasn't allergic to dogs back then.
I especially like the tri-colored ones.
