Wow, very perplexing. And it's not sunburn, correct? I can't imagine what would cause the blistering and pain on the tops of your feet. Please let us know what you find out.
.

major sunburn was my immediate thought. I don't know anyone who rubs lotion onto their toes, and foot sunburn is the worst for people who don't go bare foot often. Sunburn can cause blistering, swelling and pain. I usually try to bury my feet in the sand when sitting on the beach, to keep the sun off of them.

The tops of my feet got all messed up a couple years back in Dune Allen.

I was trying to launch a jon boat and tripped and went crashing into a big sticker bush. It didn't hurt at the time (thank you mr. coors light) but later that day, the tops of my feet swelled up and burned like crazy.

Leave it to me to fall into a poisonous sticker bush...

The only thing better than that was when I stepped on an entire stalk of sand spurs. My uncle convinced me to let him pull them out all at once by the stalk. He pulled and the stalk came out, leaving all the sand spurs firmly embedded in my foot.

Poison ivy and poison oak will also cause blistering, so maybe it wasn't beach related at all. Maybe the house had some poison ivy in the yard.

Hey man! I get poison ivy all the time and this wasn't it. The scratches on my feet were what swelled up so bad. It was an evil voodoo sticker bush.

I hear you, but your comment made me think of that possibility for Jackie. I remember clearing some bushes and vines on some land one summer day, and later that afternoon, I realized that my arms were splotchy and blistered, and were suddenly burning. It took me a while to realize that I had been clearing Poison Oak. Some of us learn about nature the hard way. Yesterday, I was reminded of the pain of Sandspurs. OUCH!

Poison Ivy is especially fun when you get it in your eyes. I'm speaking from personal experience on that one.. :pissed:

Exactly, because it happened to my dad about 20 yrs. ago. Like you mentioned, he had never rubbed sunscreen on the tops of his feet; he was one of these people who tanned easily - didn't even believe in sunscreen. But the tops of his feet got so blistered and sore that he couldn't even walk a week later. He was a mess. And we never quite figured out if he actually did get sunburned or what.

We had a guest who took a long nap on the beach and scorched the bottoms of his feet. He had been sleeping on his stomach and his feet cooked all day. Now you know that felt good. He had skin coming off his feet in big sheets.

Thank you guys soooo much, my "thank you" button is broken or something. I appreciate everyone's kindness. I keep thinking the sun burn thing too but the welts are huge and my feet are so swollen. Normally, I never burn and do keep my feet buried in the sand as much as possible but I run after three grandsons too. We have been back in MO since Saturday and never were around any vegetation of the poison ivy sort. Surely it will be better tomorrow, am barefoot at work, walk in wearing the biggest softest flip flops ever, really cute for an old gal! Thank YOU!!!!

Not aware of anything in the sand that might have created a reaction. Me and the Missus are forever walking different beaches from Port St. Joe this weekend to Ed Walline where we live and neither of has gotten anything. Hopefully it was as simple as a sunburn.
Don't let that keep you away from coming back.
