Florida Girl, while I don't agree with your position on the dog flies, I sure as Hell admire your spunk! You have your opinion and you are going to stick to it. If someone can really offer you strong information regarding the spraying of dog flies, I am sure you will consider it fully before discarding it. Too many on this board are closed minded and never listen to the thoughts of others. I know, now I will be accused of being close minded and I probably am but I admire someone who stands up for their principles even when I don't agree with them and doesn't back down until there is ample proof they are wrong. While I don't agree with your position on the dog fly issue, I'm also sure you would be a voice of reason and reality on the Mosquito Control Board.

I think you would be a voice of reason on the Mosquito Control Board and would carefully research your position before voting. Carry on and know that some on this board are not so close minded as to not allow an open expression of one's opinions and beliefs.

Andy, I sometimes forget that others look at that word, "moderator" under my name. I was not suggesting that you change your statements. Sorry if I miscommunicated that in some way. My moderation allows any words they use in Church, and Hell is one of those words.

No, SJ, it is me who must apologize this time. I did not note another page had been started and drew the erroneous conclusion my whole post had been removed and I was, admittedly, unhappy.

................... I believe we are on the top of the food chain, due the "grey matter" between our ears that seperates us from animals. We have great responsibilty to manage our land, and I take that seriously.

Put a smart, educated, experienced human up against an insect (dog fly, mosquito ....) and see which can live the longest. My money is on the insect. Think about their extremely shorter life cycle and ability to adapt, mutate, develop resistances within these cycles. Now how long is it going to take that human? All the gray matter in the world can't compete with an insects ability to change. imo!

There's an old saying, may as well tell the truth, people believe what they want to anyway! Seems irrelevant what I say, some individuals interpret it however they want. Whatever! You are bold enough to state your opinion; I have a right to do the same. I can't force you to agree; neither can you force me to agree. My wish is that you would at least get all the info before being rash, and unless you were either here before the Mosquito control was established, or know someone who was and actually believe their testimony, you don't have all the facts. I'm sure if you looked, you could find someone. It's a scary thought, that decisions involving the welfare of other people are made, or will be made, without knowing all the facts, or even a desire to know. That they don't care about the citizen's they are affecting, or causing to suffer.

I truly would like you to educate me with these facts and info.

Rita, one thing which flygirl, I mean FLGirl, fails to mention when she talks about the old days around here, is the fact that there were people raising cattle, and it is cattle (this is no comment on the heard mentality of many of today's people) to which the Dog Fly is attracted. I'm not surprised that the Dog Flies were unbareable with cattle being raised here. I grew up on a farm with cattle, and we had plenty of Dog Flies and Gnats. Again, we didn't spray poisons on everything to kill the biting Dog Flies, and we all survived just fine, even when we worked outside. Heck, it took four hours to mow our yard on a riding mower, so I've had my share of bites. Bothersome, yes, but no need to kill all animals as small as the Dog Fly or smaller, just because the Dog Flies are bad.

How's that for more complete information?

Actually, GrumpyJoe, the cattle mentioned couldn't survive here because of the Mosquito's, flies, and other assorted pests. The cattle were gone before I was born. So, that doesn't hold water either. The orange groves were killed by frost and disease, frankly not much could survive except pine trees and sugar cane.
