From what I read of the news the following were effectively re-elected yesterday as no one ever qualified against them.

Clerk
Martha Ingle

Tax Collector
Rhonda Skipper

County Commissioner
Scott Brannon

Property Appraiser
Patrick Pilcher

Where have all of the Democrats in Walton County gone? Could they have not found one person to run against Brannon?

Believe me, the Democrats tried

We tried to find a viable candidate -- and not just a warm body. Even tho Meg Stephenson is an Independent, she had thought running and would have been an alternative to Scott. I'm sorry she didn't take the plunge. With the entire county about 2/3 Republican it's difficult to find willing souls to run for the office.

I seriously hope you are joking rapunzel. Even if that is a true statement, with prequalifying you have had months on end to put together paperwork. No need to procrastinate.

But I do have a question for others -

Can anyone remember the last county commission seat that went unopposed? I cannot think of one in recent memory, and no one else can seem to think of one at all.

If thats so, it should say something about Comm. Brannon and the job he has done. I am sure some will argue people were "afraid to run", but honestly, it appears he has done a good job.

Congrats to Comm. Brannon, as well as the other re-elected officials.

Yes, the reason Brannon is running unopposed is because he's done SUCH a good job noone wants to run against him.

Is what you're on legal? If so, please share it - will make Scott's 2nd term more bearable!

No, it wasn't a joke. I waited to the last minute to see if anyone else would run for the position because we really need to move to be closer to the hospital -- which would put me out of the area.

They apparently took paperwork from someone else who came in and was sent back out to have something notarized, but I made the mistake of calling about a notary instead of going to the office.

I thought the SOE has always been in that spot? I mean, at least since the annex opened.
There's a notary in the Clerk of Court office across the hall.
