fulltime I have to ask why they would have to build transmission lines from the wind generators? My understanding was that we have a national power grid. I understand upgrades, but I don't understand the argument that it would require brand new lines.

As to Nuclear power I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to give the 3 thumbs down.

Here ya go on the transmission lines and this is just the cost of short distance transmission. As for nuclear, you can double the down digits and it don't make a hill of beans, the government is about to approve the first new facilities in decades.

The government is also experimenting with generators that harness ocean tides and currents. About 70% of electricity generated in the country is from renewable resources (hydroelectric, geothermal and wind), and New Zealand has announced the intent to become completely ?green? in electricity production within a few decades.

70% is a pretty good number. ocean currents are truly untapped...think of the energy in a single wave...

Okay, but I've just got to ask, do you own stock in nuclear power? Not really sure how that would work, but you've got a love affair with nuclear like Mr. Burns.

The History Channel did a great show (part of the Modern Marvels series I think) on alternate energy sources during Earth Week.

Very informative and interesting and it discussed wind, solar, wave action, biofuels etc. Can someone with more skillz find it please?

No stock - just interesting to see how little the greenies understand about energy policy and economics. I guess you fall into the group that can still afford gasoline.

Damn you richies and your gasoline!

I can, most people can, but that doesn't mean I like pumping. As much as I hate the idea of leaving my neice in the throws of no gas, I would rather that than leaving her a nuclear melt down aftermath. The basic point is that there are better alternatives. Nuclear just happens to be the quickest and takes up the least amount of room. How about a solution that reduces the environmental impact?

What solution - like corn that drives up the price of food and results in more fertilizer being dumped into the Mississippi River and increasing the size of the dead zone in the Gulf, or maybe wind with transmission lines run through wetlands, forest and poor rural neighborhoods with condemnation proceedings and the like. Love to have this talk about the envronmental impact then to remind you of your solutions. I wouldn't equate a couple of Frenchies getting what amounts to an x-ray with a "nuclear melt down". The fact is nuclear is clean burning, and because it's man-made, we can make as much of it as we need. I don't expect you to understand it - only hope that Obama does if he gets elected.

Actually, we have had an excellent nuclear plant north of Tampa, in Citrus County, since 1977. Progress Energy is building another one in Levy County that was recently approved. There was not a lot of opposition -- the biggest complaint was the surcharges that will start soon. The Citrus County plant has been run very well. The main issue of course is what to do with increasing amounts of waste.

Something needs to be done about the "ethanol solution" NOW before it becomes something that can't be undone. Now that is a nightmare.
