The idea of this happening again just evokes denial in me.

I mean, growing up we knew it would eventually happen. As a kid I knew it was really dumb that they ever even built a city in that location. By 4th grade, during a project I did concerning the topography of the area (I was home schooled, you wouldn't believe the kinds of projects I did in 4th grade, lol!) I started to get terrified, not because of hurricanes in particular, but just at the idea of basically living in a bowl surrounded by water!

Any time a hurricane would blow through, my dad would go on and on about how if it ever came at just the right angle things would be really, really bad. Of course, ahead of Katrina he saw what he always hoped he wouldn't see and got 90% of our family out of there well ahead of the whole deal. We did lose two extended family members. They're all on their way once again, but I really thought that after Katrina it would be a long time before they took another bad hit. So I just keep avoiding even looking at the maps because I think I'm in denial.

Yes, hope FEEBLE, uh, I mean FEMA got it act together and there is someone at the helm whose background goes a bit further than training Arabian show horses, I would even take a runner up in the Miss Alaska Pagaent to run it, over what we had before, where's Brownie??

The good news is the CNN Breaking News for both hurricanes will all but dissolve and disrupt the Republican Convention. The truth will then be told is that what "came around once" (Katrina), will go around again (Gustav). Can you say Karma.

You are so off base. A partisan opportunist might point out that the incompetence of the state's preparation was spearheaded by a deer in the headlights Democrat governor and worthless Democrat city government. Now there is a Republican governor and some decent leadership in the city (excluding the easily bribed Bill Jefferson D-LA) and things are flowing smoothly. But who is playing the 'my party is better than yours' card?

Nagin, Bush and the stupid former Democratic Governor (who name eludes me) ARE ALL THE FACES of Katrina in equal doses, excuse me!!!. Bush can appear with the Convention smiling and acting like himself, or appear in the Gulf Coast and appear concerned and let us know how he will do to help this situation this time, he will have a choice--I hope for the sake of the American people it is the latter.

And I will repeat, what comes around goes around...the then Gov. of La. is gone. The idiot Nagin should have been gone, and Bush will be too.

You really don't know much about Louisiana in general and New Orleans in particular. Louisiana and New Orleans have suffered immensely the result of decades of systemic corruption under Democratic leadership. By MSNBC and Michael Moore bringing attention to Gustav as a "political" issue, it will simply highlight the competence of a Republican Governor who happens to be a rising star in the Republican party. If the Democrats do manage to re-take the White House this go round, they may look back at Gustav as the moment Jindal began his ascension to power in the US - thanks to Michael Moore, Keith Olberman ......... and Hnooe.

In Chinese, "Crisis" and "Opportunity" is the same word. Think about it.

Speaking of your signature, it appears you really do see a beneficial connection between the potential "crisis" of Hurricane Gustav, which could seriously impact the lives of thousands of people, and the "opportunity" of the crisis to disrupt the other team's political convention so that your team has a better chance of winning; am I reading that correctly? That seems a bit sick to me.

Here's my .02...I was dumbfounded by this post. I have read many posts from hnooe and mostly find him to be a caring, thoughtful individual. I have learned alot about message boards lately and hope this is just a case of overzealousness on his part. The extreme thinking on either side is scary to me, but I do try to understand the passion one has, until that passion crosses a line with me.

Bush isn't going to the convention, neither is Cheney.
