No. Highly Unlikely, But...

Obama did take down the Clintonista wing of the party. A "token" of the Democratic Party could not do that. A "token" would not be allowed to do that.

It's was only a matter of time before a figure like Obama would rise in American politics. His racial composition is an indicator of the future of our nation and the world at large.

He is, in a sense, a post-racial American. He doesn't come from that same tradition as MLK. He's not the descendent of slaves. He doesn't have Southern roots.

I honestly believe that if he was "blacker" in skin pigment, he would not be the nominee. I do not say that to be offensive though. America was built from the blood of Africans.

Obama's position will indeed help us to move beyond the sins of the past. He represents a society that will inevitably grow more "color-blind."

Love him or leave him, win or lose, his impact on the American story is historic. It's only just begun.

As an American, I'm just proud that this day has arrived.

Wonderfully stated.

I'm happy with Obama as a candidate, but he just barely beat Hillary. Without the benefit of his racial background, I think Hillary would have won the nomination. Whether he will be a better president than Hillary is another question which we may never be able to answer. If elected, I hope he is a great president but that will depend on his abilities and not his race. History doesn't give you extra points for skin color.

Completely disagree

What is compelling to me is his brilliance and ideas and ideals - couldn't care less about color or religion

Obama gives nice speeches - Jindal is brilliant. I don't hear the "enlightened" folks here kneeling at the Jindal alter. Of course, Jindal is an Indian conservative with strong Christian religious beliefs and not a liberal African-American from Trinity Church in Chicago. When he runs for President, I'm sure all of the so-called "registered republicans" and other Obama worshipers on this site will tell us that Jindal is just a continuation of Bush/McCain.

Oh and of course he was picked because he was African-American. The Democrats were evidently stunned into euphoria that an African-American liberal was "articulate".

I have another question for you...Do you think Obama would be where he is today if his associations with Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Frank Marshall Davis and Mr. Resco (to name a few) had been brought to light earlier in the elections? Forget the color of his skin..the only one playing the race card is Obama himself.

I think there have been quite a few positive comments about Jindal, and I don't recall any negative.

Your constant challenges and finger pointing at your "opposition" does not invite people to want to engage in civil discourse with you- have you ever thought about your delivery? Calling people out to give you an immediate answer does nothing but make your target go on the defensive- but I guess that is your goal.;-)

As a test, take a good hard look at the latest Newsweek cover. Put a white guy next to Biden and ask yourself, does that work? I think the answer is obvious. Hillary Clinton would be next to Biden, not a white Obama.

I don't get what you are saying...

I put a white guy with all of Obama's talents next to Joe Biden. What about this is "obvious" as you say? I think it works great. I presume you don't.

Are you saying that Obama beat Hillary because he is black?

I am under the impression that Obama beat Hillary because of:

A) what he brings to the table (refreshing, young, message of hope and change, etc.- see my earlier post)

B) the fact that his campaign people were better organized for the longer hall via technology, raised more money and in particular- took the caucases more seriously...

So you are slighting folks who believe in Obama for not praising Jindal on an Obama thread?

I just don't get you, FT...

But here it is anyway-
I am extremely impressed by Jindal. I believe he will be a great leader for this country- Dem or Repub.

Believe it or not, I vote for people and I vote for issues. I don't vote for one party and am actually very jaded by both parties...

Yes, I do...

I think the associations were publicized early enough that if they were to sink him they would have. Perhaps, the better question would be-

would he stand a chance of winning if they were brought out later?

I think if the Wright scandal broke between the DNC and November that Obama could be in trouble...
