Don't mess my theory up man!!!! Don't do it, it's not worth it!!!:lolabove::rotfl::D:yikes::blink:;-):roll::wave::welcome:

Not messing it up, dude! And a :lolabove::rotfl::D:yikes::blink:;-):roll::wave::welcome:back to you! (I really, totally agree. I don't bother with sunscreen on myself & only use it on the kids when the "pressure" is on.) Sadly, I had to take a winking smiley out b/c between yours and mine, I was over the limit.

It seems we all spend a lot of time and energy wondering and looking for where all this cancer is coming from. If you look at the ingredients of what you eat and put on your body the answer should become pretty clear. I am by no means an extremist just not sure I believe everything the FDA says is ok for you.

Absolutely! My brother explained something about the alkalinity of our bodies being tied to cancer growth.

All we need to do to stay cancer-free is eat fifteen pounds of kale every day. :puke:

So, you don't want to know about the essential fatty acid issue either...:D The fact that our "low fat" diets have pretty much removed EFAs from our diets, bodies, etc. and that also decreases the protection against free radicals, etc. Research as shown that essential fatty acids serve as the resonance system for the sun's energy that naturally reduces harmful topical effects and keeps the skin healthier.

I had understood that cancer needs an acidic environment to grow in. A doctor recommended to me something called EVAMOR. It is a water that is naturally alkaline. As, for the free radicals, Weil recommends includiong some oatmeal in your diet. The logic was that the free radicals and toxins bind to the unrefined oats, you need the unprocessed oats, and the oats function like sponges sooping up yuky stuff that can be eliminated. And not just float around your body. Generally I think we are all better off with unprocessed foods. We have all sorts of junk floating around our bodies. I love to listen to WUNC radio. They have something called Science Friday and a Neighborhood Pharmacy show that provides me lots of useful infor on diet and toxins in foods and environment.

Skin cancer runs in my family, so I wear sunscreen. Matter of fact, I wore 50 for the past week, since I was at the shore and in the sun and ocean daily. I did not burn and still have a deep tan because your body's melanin kicks in to protect your skin. As far as the safety of sunscreens I would rather wear one and work on detox of the chemicals however people see fit, either through exercise and foods and/or natural remedies. My doctor has done quite a bit research since 1 in 4 patients that come to him have some form of cancer. He also lost half his family to cancer. He has told me the same thing, to take a walk in the sun for about 10-15 minutes a day.

I was watching a show on the Discovery Channel and they said in the next 10 years or so people will probably be taking resveratrin daily (a component of wine) which is a potent anti-radical, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and science has dicovered that it can extend lifespan by 30%. Just about every cancer physician now (from conversations with people who have it) are recommending a natural supplement made from veggies and fruits encapsulated because they have found that we do not eat the necessary amount to protect our bodies, not to mention pesticides, etc.

So as much as I believe that sunscreen may have chemicals in it that might be harmful, the risks outweigh the benefits of not wearing it. Just drink a lot of wine afterward.:D

If there is something natural out there that will work as well as the 50 I wore, I'd wear it. Purple is not my color. Sorry OM. I am sure you look beautiful in any color.

I totally understand. I seriously won't take the kids out on the beach randomly for long periods of time in the middle of the day. First of all, too hot. Secondly, I'm not risking their health. If we are out on the beach during that time, it's for a really short period of time, or else they do get the zinc oxide sunblock. Then, I have alien kids.;-) They have yet to be burned. I've had more worries about heat stroke, not that it's happened, but just watching for it carefully.

I've got other types of cancer that run in my biological families, so I understand the precautionary view. And with Mr. OM's skin issues from his endocrine system.... He's got to be really, really careful in the sun & heat (even with healing), although his skin is so sensitive, it reacts to ANY type of sunscreen and therefore can't use it. Another reason our beach going lasts for short periods of time. I'm just glad he's able to get out with us now.

The red wine constituent that acts as a anti-free radical, etc. is pretty amazing. There are so many things we don't get in our diet any more that used to automatically be there.

One reason I will not use a "normal" brand of sunscreen ever is the ingredients....

For example, my cousin's daughter is allergic to polyester. Can't wear polyester clothes, has to have leather seats in car & before in booster seat. Last year, my cousin was putting sunscreen on her and couldn't figure out what the rash on her daughter's body was from. She's very careful with her regarding any sensitivities, but never thought to look on the back of the sunscreen bottle, at first. When she did, she was shocked to see polyester as an ingredient.

I can deal with lots of things. We eat very "whole food" meals at home, but can go with the flow out in restaurants. But the things like lotions, shampoos, soaps, sunscreens, etc... I am very diligent about not putting a ton chemicals on their little bodies.

Mango, have you tried the sunscreen here at 4Kids? Might be another option for you. I think it's called SuperGoop. Here is the link: http://www.supergoop.com/ It says organic, but nothing on the label remotely demonstrates that, no USDA seal. It is natural, though. I used it on the kids a couple of times.... no purple aliens:clap:.... I know that there are those that swear by it. It's something I'm going to end up keeping for those "Just in case" times.
