The problem is how Obama used this phrase and the connection and connotation that he was making (either mistakenly or on purpose). One of the most famous lines from Palin's speech at the convention was the Hockey Mom/Lipstick line. It was obvious to his supporters what Obama was inferring when he used the "lipstick on a pig" phrase (they stood up, laughed and cheered) and it was obvious that the media "got it" (its been on MSNBC, CNN and Fox all morning).

The bottom line is that Obama either made a mistake or was trying to be too clever. The McCain campaign saw an openning and took it (Obama would have done the same).

The end result is that Obama wasted at least 24 or 48 hours of his campaign fending off sexism charges ...... just like Hillary wasted a lot of time in South Carolina fending off racism charges.

When I first heard this, before all of the hoopla about it today, I thought it was intentional, not just because of what he said, but the tone in his voice & the smirk on his face. He has been thrown off track by her popularity & it has dethroned him & he does not like it. He does need to get back to the issues.

I see this as a positive for Obama. Obviously he didn't mean it. This gives him an opportunity to fight back and tell the Mccain camp how full of s--- they are. OK maybe Obama should have said "you can't polish a turd" whatever. In any event, I sent an e-mail telling the Obama campaign that they won't get any more campaign money from me until he openly tells the McCain campaign to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. This is a perfect opportunity. Thank you piggys!

Keep up the great work. Surely you're making the Obama camp proud.

Gosh, wouldn't it be great if we could withhold money from the government until they did the right thing?

The phrase "putting lipstick on a pig" has been in the vernacular for quite some time. Obama used it months ago in describing the Bush/McCain connection. McCain used it in describing Hillary's policies. If you google the phrase you get over 200,000 hits, the vast majority of them totally unrelated to this compaign.

Where is that Goofer quote about this sophisticated Jerry Springer on-going episode? Looks to be getting less sophisticated with each passing day.

For me the McCain/Palin upset over the pharase "lipstick on a pig" conveys that they have lead very sheltered , isolated lives. I don't know if it is just a Southern thing, I doubt it, but I am a southern and hear that phrase in every day speech. It is not an insult, it is not a sexualization, it is not an isult to women, lipstick or pigs. Grow up ya'll. If we don't talk the same language then I sure don't want you in my Whitehouse.

Tsk, tsk. Using the same phrase. He should have said.........
"Where lipstick is concerned, the important thing is not color, but to accept God's final word on where your lips end. " - Jerry Seinfeld

:rotfl:omg, I somehow missed this one - never heard it!

This is actually a common phrase in Sales & Marketing in both the US and the UK. There's nothing wrong with the phrase itself. Hence, there was no uproar when McCain used it (last year or rehashing it now).

Two wrongs don't make a right. I definitely see the need to bring up McCain's idiotic use of that term. I am sorry to say this...they both need to STFU and talk issues.

I saw the report on the news today, and saw Obama's comment. He was not talking about Palin. He was talking about McCain's same ole same ole policies of Bush. yes, it did bring back the lipstick on a pit bull quote from Palin. But, Obama did not mention Palin. She is not the Presidential contender, after all.

Derailed???

Obama is going to come out stronger. He's like Ali, taking a beating right now but this will be an eleventh round knockout come November.

Palin is a flash in the pan. And she stinks like sh*t on hot Alaskan ice.
