I like the "Watch-Ovah-Ya" pronunciation because of their good service...

Not all of them!

One again I trumpet the merits of patronizing local businesses! I still have my accounts and $ in my childhood hometown bank - which doesn't charge any ATM fees and didn't make any sub-prime loans. :D

I have laughed at and pondered the opening of so many little banks all over my neighborhood. Now I think I understand that they have been laughing all the way inside their little halls because they have no subprime loans! Bank of La Jolla, here I come! Sounds so chi chi!:D

Right here!
Should I close my checking account and open one up with Bank of Mattress?

If you have less than 100K per account, it's got a big ol fat garantee on it from the FDIC. Pulling your cash out of Citi would just contribute a small amount to this overall mess. Better to just let it sit there. Besides, your matress doesn't pay interest. :D

If it's a private bank, how do you know what they invested in? I'm not questioning your logic, i'm curious, did they publish their financial data for you or something?

:funn::rotfl: If I have more than $100 (no Ks or other letters; just a decimal and 2 0s) it's a good day for me!

You're still thinking that I have savings. You're thsilly. But my service charge for checking is very small. (In fact, I don't think I have one...)

Scooter and Kitty--You're right. If my service doesn't remain top-notch, I'll be looking into that bank that started up out of the Regions rage around here.

I know because they send out a newsletters to keep everyone updated and because I ask lots of questions (shocking, huh?) and get the answers in writing.

They have strict lending standards which unfortunately kept me from getting a mortgage/lot loan through them (they only do loans on property within the county they are located in), but fortunately kept them out of the whole sub-prime/packaging/independent mortgage broker mess. :D

I wish I had realized that I really was poor before I adopted the lifestyle of the "idle rich". It is tough going.

:rotfl:...don't worry...we might all be "poor" the way things are going. It is how we, as Americans, adjust that will be the story! That pendulum is swaying.
