The problem with health insurance in this country is not how to pay for it, but why it's so dam*ed expensive in the first place. If the runaway cost is not addressed, it will bankrupt whoever pays for it, whether it's us individually or collectively as "the government."

BORING!!!!

There was nothing new from either of them. They both played it safe and close to the chest. McCain needed to come out swinging but did not. I'm pretty sure he's toast.

Let's lay blame for a dismal debate with who it really belongs...Tom Brokaw.
He was the one who selected the questions from all the submissions. Why didn't have the cahones to select questions that had the potential to shake things up rather than ones that fed right into the same pablum we have been force fed for the past few months.

Bad job, Tom.
I think you are right about Brokaw.

I REALLY MISS TIM RUSSERT! He was the best. I always looked to him for a fair-minded and intelligent yet down-to-earth evaluation of politicians and political issues. It would have been great to have heard his take on the debates and the entire political scene over the past few months.

Chuck Todd fills in for him on NBC, but Chuck is boring. Miss that Tim smile!

Let's get some teenagers to jump in here. I'm listening to my 16 yo and it is very "interesting"....
One quote, "anyone making over $22,000 will be taxed worse than they are now"

Another, "Half the country is voting for Obama because he wants to make pot legal."

What "alternative energy" technologies do you propose to sell to these other countries? Remember that in the real world, in order for you to actually sell the technology to other people, it has to be cheaper than the technology that currently exist which has fallen in price by 40% in the last 8 months. BTW, the poor people trying to pay last year's heating bills would be much worse off with the technologies currently in vogue with Al Gore. Wind and solar are the two most expensive alternative options out there. You ought to at least be honest about that. It seems rather silly to talk about all the good employment jobs that will be created by government investment in alternative technologies that are not economically viable (and don't look to be in the foreseeable future). It sounds about par for the course for government.

Why are Americans always looking for the quick fix? despite your criticisms, against renewal energies, recent case studies and research have shown that they are well on the way to becoming viable solutions within the next decade, particularly solar. I have faith that with investment in new technologies that people much more intelligent and knowledgeable in the sciences than you and I will find solutions to these problems. But, no, I am not expecting it to happen overnight. The cost of a computer even 5 years ago was considerably higher than today. I never thought even last year that I could go online with a IPOD the width of a business card. You can continue down your path of complacency or your reality, but some choose progress.

We made it an hour into the debate before turning it off - thank goodness for DVR as there were several pauses for spirited debate (or to tell me to be quiet).

Neither did a great job, but McCain really tanked - my initial comment was that he forgot to take the hanger out of his jacket and it went downhill from there.

Even Papa Scooterbug said how poorly McCain did and how much he disliked him, which showed just how badly he came off - the pro-military conservative retired white guy full of bourbon didn't even like him!

The whole healthcare issue went over like a lead balloon. Both Mom and I would be happy if we didn't have massive increases every year, doubling in 8 would be SAVINGS to us! She thinks she has quite crappy health care for her demographic and doesn't think preventative care is a solution as she never gets credit for doing anything preventative.
