On The Today Show this morning Joe Biden defended McCain's behavior in last night's debate. He said that when McCain is argung a point, he doesn't look at his opponent or refer to him/her by name (so he defended McCain on the "that one" issue). Biden said that is just McCain's style and that he has no problem with it.

very nice of Biden. but McCain is beginning to offend me with his behavior.

I really thought it was a fine debate of the current issues, and I always just feel grateful that we have two highly articulate candidates (compared to the Dub who could barely talk). They both performed well IMO. But, I think we're bored with the canned talk. We want real talk, real debate. somebody say something original, pleeeeeeeese..
I found it distracting as Obama was constantlty trying to defend his position against McCain (and not given the chance except to defend his point in the next question) I feel that Obama did not always answer the question put to him.
Some points were made...but the real issues were clouded with innuendos, name dropping, digs and barbs.

BORING!!!!

There was nothing new from either of them. They both played it safe and close to the chest. McCain needed to come out swinging but did not. I'm pretty sure he's toast.

Let's lay blame for a dismal debate with who it really belongs...Tom Brokaw.
He was the one who selected the questions from all the submissions. Why didn't have the cahones to select questions that had the potential to shake things up rather than ones that fed right into the same pablum we have been force fed for the past few months.

Bad job, Tom.

The only thing I heard from Obama was "an investment". Over and over he would say we have to make "an investiment", I take that to mean spend. But not once did he say how we were going to make that investiment with the economy the way it is.
would you be so critical of the doubling of our national debt in the last 8 years?

"that one" rings of "you people" and goes to the mindset of an old angry white guy

I heard "That one" as more one step away from muttering about how the kids need to get off his lawn than anything racial.

I also don't care for someone I've never met pulling out the 'my friends' line. I find Obama's speech ticks as more tolerable as they're more neutral, even if they frequently make me wonder if they tie back into some sort of drill he learned as part of grade school speech therapy.

I have a question...it might be stupid....but....
When McCain talks about a 5,000 dollar tax refund that people can use to obtain health care...does he mean that it will be designated solely for health care? Does he relally believe that if every citizen is given 5,000 $ that they are going to use it on health care??????
At least Obama wants to CHANGE health care, not hand people $$$ to blow on other things.
Am I reading this wrong?

I got very bored with the debate...it was tedious and frustrating. Each candidate was trying to dig at the other and Obama was so busy trying to combat McCain's barbs that the real answers were not forth coming!
I found the whole thing distasteful and sickening.

Allifunn my understanding of McCains healthcare plan is that dollar amount of $5000 is per family. ($2500 for individual) That credit will be sent to your insurance company, not to you. I assume it's because we can't be trusted to not go out and buy smokes and beer with it. Don't forget your insurance premiums that you (or your employer) now pay will be counted as income to you. If you make $40000 a year and your total insurance costs $10000 the IRS says you now made $50000 for the year and you will pay taxes on that amount. Supposedly the credit will offset this and it's a wash. But it sounds like a big win for insurance companies that we all know have our best interests at heart.
