surfed for 2 hours yesterday...the water was unbelievably beautiful....after seeing 6 sharks @ the soiree, they were on my mind, but, you just know they are out there and try to be aware....they're generally not interested in us.

Hey All:

I know we don't want to scare tourists with shark stories but it is what it is-

There has been a lot of shark activity the last view days. Just before sunset today my family and I were hanging out on Grayton Beach and a guy fishing right next to us pulled in a shark...

It took a few of us to convince him to let it go. I ended up helping him get the thing back in the water. So I guess I can cross that one off my list of things to do as a SoWal Local...

:)

What kind of shark is that?

Thanks for sharing, did not realize they would come in that shallow of water. One almost looks beached. I find them fascinating.

The reason why it looks almost beached is because the fisherman must have pulled it to shore. ;-)

I cannot tell what kind it is from those pics, but can definitely tell it isn't a Mako. Almost looks like a BonnetHead (type of HammerHead), but I cannot see his head well enough.

I think it looks like a bull shark- very thick squatty body, same head shape.

You may be right, jdarg. It is difficult to tell if the shark is gray or brown in color, with the late afternoon sun hitting it. By the looks of the dorsal fin in relation to the pectoral fins, it would fit the description of a Bull Shark.

It is dangerous business trying to handle a shark out of water. I've seen some nasty youtube videos of people getting bitten on land and on boats, when the shark flops around.

Unless I was fishing for one on purpose, I'd get it close as I could and then just cut the line. Let it go without anyone endangering fingers or the shark.
