Yes, I understand there was ubercronyism on the levee board's part before the storm (and I am sure you realize the entity no longer exists). Still, that article is from 2005. I am not challenging or attacking you, I am just interested to hear what your take is on New Orleans (or all of Louisiana if you want to go as far back as Uncle Earl) government now versus August, 2005.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Gotta love tax dollars for a private retail development. Folks on here would have a stroke if this happened on 30A ... and rightfully so.

There were very few details provided. Unless you provide more I don't believe it is so easy to cast judgement on her decision. In other words, while I might not agree with her decision in principle, there is no evidence of corruption (or even that it was a bad decision)...

The article was meant for Skunkape who asked if I thought the political environment was different after 2005. You would have to know something about Kimball and her power base for my comments to register. Change would not be a word that comes to mind. BTW, how about John's 2 billion dollars headed for the pockets of private retail developers? BEAUtiful!

speaking of Dubya, I heard his exit interview/press conference this morning and was horrified at some of his assessments, but overall it was typical Dubya speak.

He said that "not finding weapons of mass destruction was a significant disappointment." The accusation that Saddam had and was pursuing weapons of mass destruction was Bush's main initial justification for going to war.

a disappointment that the WMD were not found? this guy's thinking is so shallow it still amazes me even after all these years. he did not say he made mistakes - he said he was "disappointed" in certain circumstances several times. his main word in the interview - disappointed. I'm not angry that we had an incompetent as hail president anymore though (to listen to his choice of words in this interview only emphasizes my opinion of him). I am so relieved.

Here is an absolutely beautiful article to understand the Louisiana way. The new Chief essentially says I have no idea who gives me campaign contributions because I don't sign and file the reports ...... uhhhhhhm, my treasurer/husband does. Then she proceeds to rule in favor of donors a whopping 67% of the time. Classic!

I don't think you're interpreting that correctly. He drew a distinction between failures and disappointments. Disappointments in his view were cases where the system he relied on broke down. For example he considered Abu Garib a disappointment, e.g. the military failed to uphold moral values in handling of prisoners. He viewed these cases as situations where the system failed, events that were out of his control.

I liked what he had to say about the vacations and getting the security briefings. People don't realize what a stressful job Presidents have. Imagine waking up every morning for 8 years and reading over a document detailing a set of 'what ifs' and 'maybes' as to what could go wrong. I wouldn't want that job. No wonder they age so much during office.

All in all a very open, lengthy, and revealing press conference. I'm looking forward to his first book.

yes, I hear what you are saying. still, my point was that the "disappointments" he discussed were blaming others and situations for his failures - absolutely no taking credit for bad decisions. His answers were candid, and accurate only in his own mind. I guess what bothered me most was his overall unpresidential demeanor and manner of speaking (I was listening to the radio). to me he sounds like a slow 4th grader, and I'm still embarrassed for him and for our country. I do wish him well - he seems to be a real nice guy no matter what.
