now back to the topic...Bush basically destroyed everything he could and left a complete mess for President Obama. he would never admit he was wrong about anything and obviously, received some pretty poor advice or just wouldn't take any good advice. He was not a well-respected leader internationally so he probably couldn't accomplish much regarding the mideast issue, etc. i will give him credit for dealing with 911 pretty well.

I doubt that the 9/11 widows, some of whom are my friends, would agree with you. The 9/11 Commission was destined to fail as Bush was the one who appointed the Commission. There were many unanswered questions left.

I watched the last Press Conference and it was a painful 47 minutes of man who is either delusional or has the act so down pat as to make people believe that he actually had any control of his office, whatsoever. Then to criticize those that were critical of him on the Hill and be asked why did he believe that to so, by a reporter, to only answer " well, you'll have to ask them." In all, he appeared to me to be a lunkhead and I had to feel sorry for him and for our Country. You never want to see a President appear like that in public because our international standing is not what he envisions and was defensive of.

But I think this was the ironic line of his babble from someone whose administration played hopscotch with the Constitution and made their own interpretations:

"What I would worry about is the Constitution of the United States and putting plans in place that makes it easier to find out what the enemy is thinking," Bush said. "Because all these debates will matter naught if there's another attack on the homeland. The question won't be, you know, 'Were you critical of this plan or not?' The question's going to be, 'Why didn't you do something?'"

My portfolio of tech stock sure as heck wasn't doing any better than it is today. My job outlook as a software developer wasn't very promising (there were no jobs.) I still remember the market crash after 9/11, sitting on my couch for three weeks straight staring at CNN wondering what the hell happened to the world. All in all, we bounced back fairly quickly from something similar to what we are experiencing now.

It amazes me how short our memories are, how quickly we forget where we've been. In 8 years we will no doubt have forgotten about this little blip in our country's history as well.

Under Clinton my stock performance was huge 112.80% for 1999. So I would say I did alot better than today, must have been your picks.

I am really optimistic that things will continue to get better. When you reflect back on how different things there are today versus 2005, it is staggering. Who could have ever imagined a near dissolution of the school board, a squeeky clean guy like Arnie Fielkow (sp?) as city council president, a Republican Vietnamese-American occupying Dollar Bill's seat and a full time inspector general on the prowl? I think Chicago/Illinois has comfortably taken the lead in corruption now.

Until the judicial system gets revamped, abuses are likely to continue to run rampant. The judiciary, based upon a separation of powers argument, has long fought efforts by the Louisiana Legislature to impose ethical reforms (it managed to avoid them again with Jindal's recent reforms). When the new Chief is said by a Tulane study to be among the the biggest offenders when it comes to dishing out justice in a manner that strongly suggest partiality to those making the largest contributions, I'm not nearly so optimistic as you that Chicago is comfortably ahead when it comes to, shall we say, questionable practices. After all, courts are where these types of deals often play out.

How was 2000?

2000 performance was 33.72% and 2001 was -13.51%

It bounced around with negative numbers until 2004 when performance bounced to 54.95%

The following years my performance returns ranged between 10% to 30% until the bottom fell out this fall. Good thing I'm a saver.

I doubt that the people whose loved ones died on 9/11 and the families who have lost their loved ones in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will quickly forget; nor, do they consider the last 8 years a "blip in our country's history".

There are things more important than portifolios and jobs IMO.

Ditto - Obviously I'm not happy that I am worth 70% of what I once was, but I am royally pissed that my classmates and dating pool are getting blown up and killed in a stupid war......................... and Bush is dissappointed that they never found the WMD his cherry picked intel said was there.

no matter how hard you try, you can never get satisfaction seeking revenge. it always backfires on you. iraq and afghanistan are a waste of precious lives and dollars spent seeking revenge over hurt national pride. the perpetrators still live, and we are running in circles bankrupting ourselves.
