When they watch the President of the United States speak and behave as he did yesterday...what are they to think? When they ask me about it, what am I to say?

That education is not important; that speaking properly and writing well are not goals they should continue to achieve...because if the do, then God forbid, they become an "elite" American......

I think a teacher worth their salt would explain to the students that humans have different skill sets that make them unique. The fact that a person is uncomfortable speaking in public does not necessarily make the person a doofus any more than the fact that someone who speaks eloquently should be identified as snobbish and elite. Some kids excel at math and science and struggle mightily with reading, spelling and speech. Teachers than do the best they can to improve weaknesses and maximize strengths. I know some brilliant people who cause me to cringe when I hear them speak in public. So what, they're still brilliant. Since I have school aged children, I'll say a little prayer tonight that you can come up with a better response for your students than the "I hate Bush" posted above. You're students deserve it.

My teachers (who were worth a shaker or two of salt BTW) beat into my brain the fact that expressing yourself properly in both spoken and written form was an essential life skill.

If you were not gifted w/ the natural ability to do so, that just meant you had to work harder to achieve it.

It's even harder to teach that lesson to students when they are being bombarded with horrible grammar and poor public* speaking from the PRESIDENT.

Out of work, uneducated, beer guzzling, tobacco chewing, camouflage clad rednecks with names like Track, Tripp, Trig, Bark, Snap, Crackle, and Pop who have pregnant teenage girlfriends are the new "elite".

I heard several comments on TV yesterday that Bush should be sent to prison.

Do you want Bush sent to prison?

A goal to be sure, but hardly essential.

I was taught to avoid repeatedly saying "uhhh" and "uhmm" and the like when publicly speaking. Many, many sucessful people can't seem to break this poor speaking habit.

I would much rather we let him fade into obscurity in Crawford and focus on rebuilding our country and economy.

Don't think anything positive could come of a long, drawn out, expensive, prosecution of him ...................... even if we were allowed access to the undoubtedly classified materials needed to prove anything.

No, a week spent hanging out with Anne Coulter should do the trick.:rotfl:I am still trying to figure out her fan base.

I should clarify my earlier post. President-elect Obama uses multiple uh's and uhm's when not speaking from a prepared speech. I think we can agree he is, nevertheless, successful. ;-)
