One of my food quirks is that I associate foods with people's names. For instance:

Donna = Lemon
Connie = Cheesecake
Ben = Beef Broth
Beverly = Curly Edge Lettuce
Jimmy & Jenny = Vegetable Stock
Franny = Souffle
Shirley = Sherbet
Valerie = Petit Fours

It goes on & on aaannnnnddd I can't make it STOP!

are you a server?

I do not like it when I go for takeout and my husband says, "you know what I want" UGH! Because his combinations make no sense to me. I would never do a lettuce pickle onion mayo and ketchup combination on a cheeseburger, just a simple big slice of onion cheese and mustard suits me!

SWEETBREADS: When we were in our twenties and hubby got a big promotion, we were in NYC on business and were dining at a tony French restaurant. We were really intimidated. My French skills in culinary terms were lacking, but I didn't want to ask for an interpretation. I saw "ris de veau" on the menu. I thought, well, veau is veal. So I ordered it. It was veal sweetbreads. Looked strange. :yikes:[/quote]

Ahem - I might be slow, but what is a tony French restaurant??? Pardon, messieur!:D

Tony means "high-toned" or stylish, marked by an elegant or exclusive manner or quality.

The restaurant was La Caravelle. Coincidentally today in the New York Times it was announced that it is closing. La Caravelle, a French Legend, Is Closing After 43 Years - New York Times

Au revoir.

No one has mentioned Anthony Bourdain (sp?) or that nut job that can't get through an episode without eating some animals testicles.

Hey! Don't you know that me and Pea LOVE Tony? I don't care what he puts in his mouth. :wave:

One night we were at La Caravelle with the CEO of the company for which hubby worked and whose headquarters were in a high-rise nearby. We arrived early, and CEO asked the chef what we were being served. He mentioned carrots. CEO said that he'd prefer Brussels sprouts, which we all knew is his signature favorite vegetable. The chef said they didn't have them. CEO said, "This is NYC. You can get Brussels sprouts." We had Brussels sprouts for dinner that night. ;-)

Probably also got the asshat o' the night award and possibly some extra flavoring from the kitchen staff too! :roll:

I love Bourdain - learn a lot about places and food, but have learned to be quick on the remote for some uber-icky dishes or promos for that damn gross-out show that follows it. :angry:
