Miss Kitty, "the day the music died" refers to the the death of the great Buddy Holly, one of the pioneers of rock n' roll. He died 50 years ago on this date. He was only 22 years old.
Oh, I knew that, but I remembered a neat email from DD that interpreted the entire song. This song was such a part of my high school years. I drove a Chevy (Camaro) and it seemed that everyone that got in my car wanted to go to a levee. ;-)
I loved this song growing up. Then the music did die when a certain recording artist killed this song for me.
