EPIRB (for when I finally want to leave), deluxe First Aid kit (the one I used to carry on trips had matches and water purification and was in a Pelican case you could use to stun a charging rhino), and a Leatherman.

Condoms are actually a quite useful item to have on a desert island - good for carrying liquids, keeping stuff dry etc.

So we can't agree on what we want on said desert island (condoms or chickens?) can we come to consensus on whom we would want to spend time on a desertED island? ( the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders are ineligible) Bono?

to escape the political forum

:D...good reason! Take some tea bags to the island....you'll need the stimulus! Also take a TARP in case of rain. Oh, and the tax code to lull you to sleep.

Seriously - it's the years of training! My Wilderness First Aid certification is long expired, but the memories of using a plastic trash bag for a raincoat, twig chopsticks, and bending a sapling down to suspend items over the fire live on. (raincoat, most utensils, and grate all lost shooting rapids (and dumping) on day 11 of a 34 day trip).

Gawd knows I'd much rather be using condoms for their intended purpose, but there is a reason they put them in emergency kits!
