Summer vacation seemed so long. I loved mom hanging laundry out to dry and watching the wind blow it around. I lived barefoot all summer too and was always getting cuts and bee stings. I climbed trees better barefoot than in shoes.

I had a wonderful banana seat bike and I put a card in the spokes to make the cool motor sound when the wheels turned. Everyone had a bike so we made a great sound altogether and we'd ride them to the corner store for penny candy.

We didn't have air conditioning back in the day and I loved the fresh cool side of the pillow when I fell asleep at night.

My father had this big old conch shell that they got in Florida ion their honeymoon. he cut off the end and made a horn out of it. When it was time to come home, everyone in the neighborhood would know because of that horn. I finally persuaded him to give it to me once our kids were born. It now sits on the floor next to my dresser and devery once and a while iI will blow the shell for the grandchildren.

would she notice if one suddenly turned up missing ?

Yes, in fact you'd probably get tackled in the parking lot. Sweetest little old lady to ever turn around and say "touch that lamp again and your parents will be childless". :D

I loved line dried linens growing up. They'd be a little stiff at first, but then they just got softer and softer.

If you put the conch shell up to your ear you can hear BB rolling her eyes. :funn:

It' s a wonder I'm not a complete drunk, they had me drinking whiskey with a little sugar and a dab of water for my terrible winter coughs.

Bourbon on gums still works. When my niece was teething we finally gave up and I told my sister to buy a mini bottle at the liquor store. Worked like a charm.

What a great thread! I loved the cards in the spokes, a banana seat bike never sounded better.

You guys had street lights? It wasn't a conch shell, but my parents had one of those big plastic horns, you could hear it from blocks away...and everyone in the neighborhood knew it was time for pg to be home.

And the previous generation thought that walking to school and back 7 miles in 2 foot deep snow made good stories!
