I don't think the strength of the military would make any difference. These are suicide terrorists. The threat of retaliation is not a deterrent in any way. Our perceived strength would not have made a bit of difference. Vigilance is the only solution. We were caught with our pants down around our ankles, plain and simple.
I agree with this. Military strength is what you need in a response, but it has little todo with protecting the nation against attacks. What we need is securer ports, securer borders, better intelligence, and we need to be more careful about paying attention to what's going on in the world.
Bush clearly worked on all of these things. We all know the news on what got passed, and what got stopped, and who stopped the progress. It's not something you fix overnight so hopfully over time politicians, the people, the unions, et all will pull their respective heads out and get it done.
Speaking of which, I've not heard much from Obama about secure borders and ports, specifically the southern border and our immigration problems. Anyone have any links to news on that subject? Seems like solving these problems, all of which were huge campaign issues, ground to hault right after the election. I've heard a lot about CIA investigations on torture, but what about improved foriegn intelligence? Did we stop caring about protecting the country on Jan. 20th? This is an honest question, not a jab. These problems were huge issues for me in the election. I hope they have not fallen by the way side.
