Can anyone recommend a highend cruise tour to Alaska ?? We are going to Denali on our own and plan to tour Anchorage ourselves.

Princess and Royal Caribbean are the two heavy hitters in that market as far as packages go. I believe that Princess actually owns a railroad called the Midnight Sun Express. If they don't own it, they are very involved.

Celebrity is a little more high end.

Two of my friends highly recommend Holland. They prefer very high end experiences, and have done the Alaska cruise twice on Holland.

Me, I prefer, a more laid back experience. We did the Inland Passage on the Ferry. For those who want a different experience, I highly recommend this approach. Loved it! Spend some time in Glacier Bay...that is fantastic!

We did 10-12 days on a sailboat out of Juneau and I recommend it highly. Througout our travels we saw several cruiseships and all of the people looking at everything from afar while we were getting up close and personal...and not making such a impact on the environment. While sitting in an outdoor tub fed by a hot spring, overlooking a HUGE waterfall I watched a cruiseship navigate up as far as it could, everyone took their picture of the falls and then they threw it in reverse and headed out again.
We relaxed in hot springs, kayaked with whales and sea lions, hiked on several islands, enjoyed copious amounts of beer, wine and various other beverages, dined on fresh caught salmon and dungenous crab among other delicious meals prepared by Capt. Laurie and her first mate and sometimes by us if we felt like it. We got to lay out our goals and she tailored the route to meet that. My brother and sister had sailed with her the previous year as well.
Capt. Laurie has turned the helm of the Kirsten Anne over to Capt. Neil but I have been assured it is the same wonderful experience. The best adventure of my life. I came back completely relaxed and in awe over what I had seen and done.

Great....Now I'm crying cause I want to go back to the Kirsten Anne soooo much. I just looked at the pics on the website and relived the whale coming up behind my kayak and the sea lion following me and popping up every five minutes. Oh and lounging on the deck with an ice cold Alaskan Pale Ale. Oh My.

I can't really recommend a cruise line, but if you go to Juneau, skip the tourist shops and 1) take the mt. roberts tramway up to the top of the mountain and go on hikes - great views, crazy tram trip, lots of critters 2) take a boat trip out to see the glaciers/wildlife - the seals and whales are amazing 3) go into town and see the Mendenhall glacier!
