My sister is heading out to Red River, NM for two months and has asked me to suggest some books to take. I have sent a list of what I can remember (I read lots but am bad about remembering titles/authors).

Any suggestions of what you have read recently or are currently reading for the beach? Nothing too deep- she will be on vacation (poor thing- in the mountains during the hottest of months in a Texas summer!)

I recently finished The Help and loved it.
Thanks, rapunzel- I just read about The Help on Amazon and it sounds like a book to recommend and to read myself! Plus it reminds me to recommend The Secret Life of Bees to her. Several of the books I listed for my sister have a caveat "better than the movie".

Why have we not met??? Two of the best books ever.

Thanks Poodle-lee-oh-nee for starting this thread- the summer reading thread lists are some of my favorite SoWal threads.

I am looking for some newer stuff- found some books that looked great while I was playing on Amazon, did a search in our local library, and of course they don't have them.:sosad: I have to admit that i miss a big public library systemI used to fill my shopping cart on Amazon, print the list, put them on hold on the Louisville Free Public Library online system, and pick up a bag full of books at the local branch. of course I used to also have time to read.:rotfl:

I am reading Water for Elephants on my Kindle--a new experience.

I enjoyed The Soloist; have not yet seen the movie.
