glad to provide you with your daily dose of amusement :D

To deny that the us can survive economically separate and apart from the rest of the world is folly. When the smoke clears from this "made in america" global financial crisis, what other nations "think" of what remains of the us will either make us or break us going forward.

If your 401K is down, it's because you didn't manage it well enough. How is regulation going to keep your 401K balance high? It's not, but it might stymie growth that keeps it from growing. Also, how is government regulation going to make your eye ointment less expensive? Or get your insurance company to pay more of your medical costs? Maybe you're confusing "regulation" with subsidy? Regulation usually increases rather than decreases costs.

our 401K is down less than most but that still doesn't prove a thing other than we are generally more conservative investors. i'm not saying government regulation is the absolute fix for everything bad. but you have to admit when there is a mix of deregulation and personal greed, you get the current state of the economy. i know there is a ton of waste in government spending but if we could right that ship, universal healthcare wouldn't just be a dream for many. i'm all about finding the waste, cutting what needs to be cut. we need personal accountability all the way around.

Thinking that the USA is unaffected by the actions, opinions, and behavior of the rest of the world is hubris and stupidity of the highest order.

I agree with 30Ashopper regarding the assets. My assets were fairly well positioned so I lost very, very little in that. It's my income that dropped drastically. Fortunately, I am resourceful and not dependent upon the government - I will get there. I have shifted gears, and shifted gears in staying ahead of this recession.

As far as the insurance issues, there is another thread regarding that. If you work for a large corporation, you should have a menu from which to choose a medical plan that suits your needs. There should be plans covering from 100% to a bare minumum. Often times, when one chooses a plan that doesn't cover everything, they have a surprise medical expense and then feel it's a problem with the system. Not saying this is the case with you, however.

Everyone needs to live within their means and make necessary adjustments. I am not for Big Government and I am not for socializing a dang thang in this country. I am for people working hard and using their talents to provide for themselves. This does not mean I am not charitable.....just wanted to cover that off before I get called a 'meanie' or something worse. And, the proverbial wave..... ;-)

i'm all for accountability. i think all the people who speculated in this real estate market, never intending to truly "buy" a property but flip it instead, should not receive financial assistance. that's why it's called "speculating". we did not lose as much as others in our 401K but there were alot of stupid loans made by banks along with a lot of greedy people who took on those loans. should banks continue to be permitted to make loans on "stated income" if they choose to? right now, they've backed off but there are short memories. i'm betting without government controls, the banks will be off and running again in another 10 years. yes, those who accept loans that common sense would tell them they shouldn't take, are equally responsible. but let's not let everyone else off the hook.

I agree - in global markets, we are work (or should) work together. However, just because other nations are socialized doesn't mean we have to become that. Nor should we ever try to please or appease another nation when it comes to our standards.

In the eyes of the world, the US is a nation of greedy, wasteful, arrogant, debt-ridden, self-righteous people--our standards, as a whole, could use a little tweaking (this recession is helping that along).

Have heard and experienced this for decades. That's their perception. I know the good we do. We aren't perfect, but do a tremendous amount of good as well that 'they' tend to forget while they are hating us and our benevolence.

And, we are affected by others' actions, opinions, and behavior of the rest of the world. I know no one in in my circle of influence who is hubris or STUPID! If people from other nations have experienced this, that is their experience and their perception. I won't take those issues on.

i always get a kick out of those that think that somehow we should care what other nations think. And as if the media there is close to fair and balanced or even informative for that matter. That would be like msnbc being the only source of info here in the u.s. Is this the same europe that already went down the big government, socialistic road and is has now drastically moved right in the last elections? When the phony obama mania smoke has cleared, perhaps some will see the failure's that are staring us all in the face. Time will tell all as it always does. Unfortunately, the koolaid will continue flowing into some......

I always get a kick out of people who simply can't admit that our shiiite really does stink. What's the big deal? :dunno: Fix it and move on. So what if other countries know it too?

What the GOP needs to do is embrace and nominate a candidiate who is electable. This person is purely fictitious at this point. Some thought it might have been Bobby Jindal. Well, his 15 minutes of fame are over. Seriously who do you have? Answer: NOBODY!!!!

Without Obama your party would be in the same boat. Regardless, the presidential election isn't what's at issue right now, it's the congressional elections in a year and a half. Confidence polls change, but right now, your party is behind the GOP on a lot of issues. I think that bodes well for the kind of change I like to see in Washington - a change to balanced government.
