Should public schools paddle kids?

I don't think children should be subjected to physical or emotional abuse.
The force behind paddling could vary based on the momentum behind it. How could this ever be tolerated. If a large angry man took a swing at a young child they could cause some serious harm.
Detention or no recess or cleaning erasers is best. No one wants to stay at school longer than they have too.
Emptying waste cans might not be a bad behavior modifier for high schoolers

Emptying waste cans is not allowed for liability/health reasons, eraser dust can cause breathing problems, and detention and no recess both cause staffing issues - no wonder there are discipline issues huh? Damn lawyers have made even the most seemingly innocuous punishments a liability issue! :angry:

Really? Geez! What a mess!

I'm glad I was in school when I was. Lawyers and Police Officers sounds like no funn at all!

Oh and another reason detention is frowned upon is that parents object because their kid can't catch the bus and Mom or Dad has to pick them up at inconvenient times.

Maybe it's actually 'detention' for the whole family. If the parents aren't disciplining/teaching them properly, then they have to be inconvenienced to pick them up when they miss the bus..........<shaking my head>.

These comments are not directed at any of you parents......just hypothetically for those who aren't or who are afraid to discipline their children. ;-)
