I am going to take a stab at this: I don't see anyone giving advice or trying to benefit personally from comments here.

I do see a poster expressing concerns, which are very personal. Once again, I am confused on sowal.com

Perhaps others are confused as well. Hnooe, that's quite a mouthful you stated in your post.

Thank you seanote!

What I have noticed is that there is a real danger in some people on this board giving personal advice in areas where they have absolutely no expertise or competency, or they are using as a manner to scare people (political scare tactic)--it is usually the well off, more concerned with their own immediate circumstances, who are trying to manipulate the less well off to protect their own selfish interests!

Beware.

hnooe didn't last long with his promise. ;-) pigs are grounded.

I will go out on a limb and guess that jsut as the talk of stocks and the Dow, if people are getting ALL their info on sowal.com about healthcare, there is no help for those people.

I do appreciate that hnooe does not want people to believe everything they read, but perhaps another way of communicating that thought would suffice.

Most people need a car to go to work. Should it not be a right? Cars can easily cost 30, 40 and 50 thousnad dollars. I think this is a crisis. Why don't we enact legislation where everyone contributes to a fund and when we need a new car, we go and get one.

What about housing? Shouldn't that be a right? Let's do the same for housing. And that way it would be result/outcome oriented like it seems so many other things are coming. Maybe then I could get a nice house on the beach and someone else could pay a dis-proportionate share for me.

Heck, what about food?

I honestly don't see any more of a crisis in health care as I do anywhere else. I don't see people dying in the streets. I'd like to see some honest changes, maybe some malpractice rule changes as an example but for the most part, I think the system is like so many others, flawed. But I am steadfastly against what I'm seeing now.

And this comes from someone without any health insurance. This comes from someone who has not gone to the hospital when I was passing kidney stones and in amazingly powerful pain. I personally think we shouldn't have insurance for health, which because of a third party paying, results in people not caring about the costs.

People, let's take care of ourselves. Let's tell the government to leave us alone. We can do it. We can do this thing by ourselves. We have the power. If we see friends in need, let's help out. But why the heck would anyone want the government, the biggest corporation, the most powerful mafia around, to have that kind of power? Why? Why do we want an entity like that to have power over us?

What about the guy who is totally unhealthy while you eat well and work out all the time. His medical bills might be out of this world, making the system less effective, but you'll pay more because of it. Come on! Take care of your frickin self and leave everyone else out of it. I want my freedom. Please don't take it away!

And, there are those who don't claim and accept their own choices/responsibility. Instead of setting money aside for emergencies, medical care, etc.......they are buying 50" flat screen TV's, beer, drugs?

I don't want to pay for these people. I really don't. That said, I am certainly not a person without compassion and do/will offer help to those less fortunate.

I'm all for personal freedoms and responsibility, but seriously? A self-insured health plan? What about cancer? Or heart disease? I'm not talking about emergency care that you would get even without insurance. Do you have $1 million set aside for extended or major care? Even if you take care of yourself, car accidents happen, cancer happens. We all know this. You live long enough and you see it! We all need coverage. Not everyone has it, and a lot of people have to pay way too much to get it.

I wish there was more talk about tort reform, and I wish that people would talk about major medical companies and their shareholders. I am all for top doctors earning big bucks, and of course you have the device and drug companies that are on the periphery and have the right to seek profit, but I don't see why there are for-profit hospital companies or HMOs and people who hold stock in them. I don't understand why there are for-profit Hospice companies. I have always thought these things to be a travesty, and it's disappointing that nobody is talking about it.

Help me here...a person in this country, illegally, will be health care covered jsut like a legal citizen? These same people can be arrested and sent back to their native countries and we are now going to pay for their healthcare, other than emergencies? What will be required...an ID from a flea market?

TFT...I asked the tort reform v. democrat question somewhere else around here with no response. Why do the "democrats" not want tort reform?

the car example is as lame as your lifeguard analogy regarding your defense of racism. medical expenses bk more people in this country than anything. you would most likely claim the usa is the greatest country in the world, yet folks are dying now because they can't afford meds/treatment. the private sector has utterly failed us, and "take care of yourself" doesn't provide any workable answers.

I really don't know. I'm guessing that over time it evolved from "we need to make sure the people who are wronged don't get screwed" to "now the trial lawyers are the biggest special interest group donating to us." Or something like that.
